The Thompson submachine guns used in the movie jam repeatedly. With live ammunition, Tommy Guns were notorious for jamming. In the movies, it was worse as the blank rounds did not have enough power to eject spent rounds out of the breech. It also made it difficult to clear the breech as evidenced when soldiers in the movie continually fumble with clearing mechanism.
