  • I did enjoy Boston Quackie on the whole. It is a little slow to start with, and I too wasn't quite sure about the opponent's accent. Anyway these are minor quibbles really, because Boston Quackie while no cartoon masterpiece is reasonably entertaining. It isn't the most fast-moving or the funniest, but I was pleased and entertained. The animation is colourful and vibrant enough, and the characters are at least drawn well. The music is rousing and has lots of energy, the dialogue is witty and funny, the story works and the sight gags are enjoyable. Daffy is rock solid as pretty much always, the female duck he was with at the beginning was cute and Porky was decent. And to top it all, Mel Blanc is stellar with the vocals, so overall I enjoyed it. 8/10 Bethany Cox
  • I enjoyed the Boston Blackie movies starring Chester Morris. This would seem to be a parody of those, although other than the character names there's little in common. Boston Blackie was about a reformed jewel thief constantly having to solve murders he was falsely accused of. This cartoon is about Boston Quackie (Daffy Duck), a secret agent in Paris given the job of protecting a briefcase with something valuable inside. A man in a green hat steals the briefcase and Boston Quackie chases him onto a train called the Cloak & Dagger Express. Porky Pig is Quackie's boss Inspector Faraway (based on Inspector Faraday from the films, who was not Blackie's boss but the cop determined to put him away). Anyway, this is a slight but amusing Daffy cartoon. The animation is okay but a little crude at times. The voicework is good. Liked the Peter Lorre impersonation. The final gag is the best in the short.

I don't know anything about "Boston Blackie", which "Boston Quackie". But you don't need to know about it to like this cartoon. Daffy Duck is a secret agent assigned to watch a top secret suitcase going to an ambassador. Sure enough, an opposing agent steals it. Most of the rest of the cartoon consists of Daffy chasing the agent across Le Cloak and Dagger Express. The surprise is when we find out what the suitcase contains.

It's a fairly funny cartoon. Might have been a little less hokey had they given the bad guy an accent other than Eastern European (Cold War stuff). But mostly really funny.

If he decided to sell that stuff, I'd buy it!
  • As a kid of the '70s, I remember watching lots of these Warner Bros. Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies cartoons on TV, either on weekday mornings/afternoons or on Saturday mornings when CBS showed "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour" (later called "The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Show" when it expanded to 90 minutes). But I don't remember watching this one while growing up. In fact, I just saw this on a Scandanavian Airlines flight. Daffy is trying to get a man with a certain kind of hat to give back something he stole. Porky pursues Daffy, for some reason while Daffy's girlfriend is also involved. I'll just now say this was quite a funny Robert McKimson-directed cartoon and leave it at that.
