Air Force Colonel Jim Shannon is tasked to escort a defecting Soviet pilot who is scheming to lure Shannon to the USSR.
Location filming for the Soviet air base was done at George Air Force Base, a World War II air base with many of its wartime structures still intact, giving the base a primitive appearance. The 94th FS and its parent 1st Fighter Group were actually based at George during filming, and had just finished a deployment to Ladd Air Force Base, Alaska, as depicted in the storyline.
Lt. Anna Marladovna Shannon:
Have you had many of them?
Col. Jim Shannon: Many what?
Lt. Anna Marladovna Shannon: Women.
The aircraft making the night interception on the B-36 was an F-94C. In later scenes, doing the "break off" and turn away, it was clearly an F-80 or T-33. The empennages are much different as the F-94C had an afterburner configuration also. This was not seen markedly protruding as would be seen on an F-94C.
