David Lynch and Mark Frost viewed this film to guide their creation of Twin Peaks (1990). Both are concerned with the secrets and scandals of people in a small town, and both ultimately reveal the sexual abuse and exploitation of a young woman by a family member. Russ Tamblyn also appeared in both.
A person doesn't always get what she deserves. Remember it. If there's anything in life you want, go and get it. Don't wait for anybody to give it to you.
The record player is playing Johnny Mercer's song "Dream" during the making-out party, which takes place in 1941. "Dream" was not written and published until 1944.
Laserdisc version cuts out some dissolves between scenes, or replaces them with fades to black (in order to accomodate side breaks).
