    Seriously going down hill

Watching an episode of coronation Street now is like watching a party political broadcast for the Green party, its covering too many topical subjects all at the one time. Watching TV should be a form of relaxing entertainments not constantly preaching about how to live our life's.

Is it really necessary to make every woman over the age of fifty a bumbling idiot. Gail and Sally have become impossible to watch, two once strong independent women are a pair of clowns and figures of fun.

    Shame on you coronation street.

    Sad decline

I once rated this legendary soap as the best drama series ever made! It had everything...great characters, superb storylines, lots of laughs intermingled with some hard hitting and serious plots. A wonderful programme, it was peerless, no other series came close. It was quite easily a 10/10.

Then the slow decline started from the late 90s. It remained a good show though, despite losing its unequalled dominance...but the rot set in deeper and deeper until it is now just another British soap that is using murder and mayhem to shock us into watching. Gone is the comedy that set it apart from other soaps. Gone are most of the legendary characters. Gone is the superb acting where just a raise of the eyebrows told us all we needed to know. It has been replaced with shouty, unpleasant characters, serial killings galore, forced and unfunny "comedy" lines and unbelievable nonsensical plots.

They maintain some decent performances with a few of the characters from the old days still there flying the flag for this iconic show. But I dread what the show will become when the very last one of them finally leaves. With regret, it will probably die a natural death and be removed from our screens.

That would be a sad day indeed.

    Decline

I have been watching Classic Corrie and it is up to 2004. The storylines are better and so is the acting. At this point in time the programmes were shorter and this may possibly mean the script writers were not under the same pressure. Around 2004 the storylines were also believable, things that could have happened anywhere including the murders. At the moment the storyline includes Tracy and her baby and about the McDonald's reaction to it. No wonder Suranne Jones went on to bigger things, she was brilliant as was Katherine Kelly and others of that time. There are still some excellent actors such as the actors who plays Paul and Damien but there are also some actors who don't make the character believable, although that may be the writing. The solicitors, oh please. The police, dear me. I think the programme makers could do with sitting down and watching a couple of years worth of Classic Corrie.

    Can't miss it

My mother was Scottish and my dad was British, so I was raised on watching Coronation Street. For the last 35 years (at least) not a week has gone by with catching up at the Rover's return. Unfortunately, here in Canada we seem to be quite behind the times, we are at the stage where Peter is revealed as a bigamist, Martin admits to the affair with Katie etc...etc... But I will continue to watch C.S.loyally. I'm addicted, and so is my wife of 10 years. She wasn't to fussy at the beginning but after watching now, it would be instant death if I didn't get her up at 8 a.m. for our 2 hour Sunday constitutional.

Our next trip to England we hope maybe for a tour of the set. It would be the icing on the cake, if I could surprise her with this holiday treat. Thanks for allowing me this moment to reflect on the great time we've had watching and will continue to watch our favorite show

    • Trivia
As of 2025, only one member of the original cast from the debut episode remains: William Roache, who has played Ken Barlow since December 1960. William Roache is the longest-serving actor in the history of television serials. The previous record-holder was Don Hastings, who played Bob Hughes on the American soap opera As the World Turns (1956), from October 1960, bettering Roache's achievement by two months. He lost his record when that series ended in September 2010.
    • Goofs
The night before Steve and Karen's wedding after Steve decides to let his mum invite Ken and Deidre, she walks out the front door, straight past the Barlows. Then, after they finish their dialog about Tracy, she comes out of the toilet.
