Mark Twain's 1851 story about two runaway friends, a fostered white boy and an escaped black slave, who sailed on a raft down the Mississippi River in search of freedom and adventure.
The riverboat used in the first scene is the one which was especially built for MGM's 1951 Technicolor remake of Show Boat (1951) and originally used in that film. It was also used in the films Raintree County (1957) and Advance to the Rear (1964).
When Huckleberry catches up with Joe on his new raft, and jumps onto the pier, the water level is very low. Minutes later, when they head for the pier, the pier is almost submerged. Then, in the next shot, the water level is a bit lower.
