A man tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but complications and a romance of his own ensue.

Baxter rushes into his apartment thinking that Fran is trying to commit suicide when his neighbor tells him she smells gas. Baxter learns that Fran turned on the stove to make tea, but never lit the pilot. Yet, when he goes into the kitchen, he doesn't lite the pilot either and begins to take the groceries out of the bag as if nothing is wrong.
