Bob Newhart did not enjoy doing this series and wanted to quit halfway through the season. But his agent explained to him that he could not quit because he was under contract.
This show was indeed brilliant comedic genius and perhaps ahead of its time. Sketches were done improv style with minimal use of costumes and props which perhaps viewers failed to understand.
