The wacky misadventures of a forever scheming woman, her reluctant best friend, and her cantankerous boss.
When show producers and Desi Arnaz first hired Vivian Vance, Lucy was very unhappy with the choice, complaining that Ethel was supposed to be frumpy and old. After their first episode of filming, Lucy walked right up to Vivian and yanked the false eye lashes right out of her eyes in front of audience and crew yelling "I'm the only one who wears false eye lashes on this set!" Vivian Vance complained to a friend about the incident later; but she said "If this show becomes a hit, I'm going to learn to love this bitch!" Indeed she did, and the two eventually became very close, working together for thirteen years on I Love Lucy (1951), The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour (1957), and this show. Eventually, according to Lucie Arnaz, Viv became like a family member, and even lived with Lucy and her family for stretches at a time, just like she did on this show.
Weren't you ever a teenager?
Theodore J. Mooney: Well, of course, what do you think?
Lucy Carmichael: I thought one day they opened the bank vault and out you popped, full grown and stingy!
When the series was first rerun in syndication in 1968, all episodes featured the season 4 opening sequence. These versions were also syndicated in the 1990s. When show was syndicated in the 1970s, the original versions were used.
