Inspector Jacques Clouseau investigates the murder of Mr. Benjamin Ballon's driver at a country estate.
A surprisingly large amount of exterior scenes were actually shot in the studios, and backlot, at MGM British Studios in Borehamwood, the since demolished, former Anglo-Amalgamated Studios site, not to be confused with the still existing Elstree (Film) Studios, previously part of EMI and known as the home of the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones trilogies. The former MGM-British Studios site is now housing, in an area north of the BBC' Elstree Centre, and the Elstree (Film) Studios.
Commissioner Dreyfus... Ah, yes, my darling... I was just about to call you. I'm on my way. I've got the cheese and the beaujolais... What?
Dreyfus: ... My love. Kiss the children for me, hmm?
Dreyfus: Hold on.
intercom: Your wife is on the other line.
Dreyfus: Tell her I'm out of...
When Clouseau answers the door bell and finds a package (a clock with a bomb) you can see clearly that someone has left the keys in the door lock as he opens the door.
When Clouseau and Maria entered the apartment minutes earlier, Clouseau put the keys in the lock but we never see him take them out. Clouseau's mistake, not the filmmakers'.
The title sequence is of an animated Inspector Clouseau bumbling around, getting into scrapes.
