Sonny and his kangaroo Skippy live in Waratah National Park in New South Wales. Matt Hammond, Sonny's father is the park ranger. Skippy saves the day in many adventures.

Skippy, created by actor John McCallum and film director Lee Robinson, was produced for the Nine Network from 1966 to 1968. It told the adventures of a young boy and his intelligent pet kangaroo in Waratah National Park, outside Sydney. By the end of 1969, Skippy was reportedly screened in 80 countries-more than any other TV show in the world. It led to books, toys and a feature film called The Intruders (1969).

Skippy takes place in a town nearby Sydney, Australia which has a nature park: "The Waratah National Park". Here animals are taken care of and released in the wild. Also Skippy The Kangaroo was cared for here. He was so happy he was healed, he became best friends with his caretakers. Every time something is up in the park, Skippy is around. he's a real hero.
