In WW2, highly decorated Marine Sgt. Jack Connell comes home to the USA from the Pacific War and trains recruits for the army until his fighting spirit prods him to request a return to active duty on the front lines.
James Best would gain mainstream success ten years later as Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane on The Dukes of Hazzard a decade later, but he'd been a working actor for a long time. Although in First To Fight, unlike a lot of other films and television shows, he does practically the same chortle/laugh (sounding like "koo koo") that would become iconic on The Dukes of Hazzard.
Lt. Col. E.J. Baseman:
Y' see what you want, and what I want have very little to do with it. Jack, now this war is just getting started and a lot of the people, or should we say some of the people back home haven't the slightest comprehension as to what its all about. Now...
Defending the riverbank, Jack's machine gun jams and he leaves it for a rifle. Moments later he's back shooting the Browning. Really poor editing.
