There are several scenes in which the same animation is reused for the Colonel Hathi and his elephants march during the song. Since they sing different lyrics during this piece of animation, the mouth movements do not match what they are saying. This is most noticeable when they cross the water.
During the "I Wanna Be Like You" song, King Louie says "One more time!" Baloo appears to be mouthing the words, but his voice isn't heard.
When Bagheera is trying to pull Mowgli away from the tree, you can hear Bagheera demand "Let go, you", and Mowgli replies, "You let go of me!" However, neither of their mouths are moving.
Baloo asks Mowgli to scratch his left shoulder, however when Mowgli scratches him, he scratches his right.
When Bagheera argues with Baloo, Bagheera incorrectly calls the monkeys "apes". Monkeys have tails and apes do not.
King Louie shows three fingers instead of two when he tells Mowgli to have two bananas.
Colonel Hathi breaks his stick; in the next scene it is intact, then broken again.
Shere Khan's stripes on his forehead are absent throughout the movie, but are visible during the extreme close up during his entrance.
When Baloo is fighting Shere Khan, the landscape is desolate and littered with dead trees. After the fight, when Baloo is lying unconscious with Mowgli and Bagheera looking over him, the landscape is the jungle again, full of live plants and trees.
Errors in geography
The story takes place in India, yet King Louie is an orangutan - they live in Borneo and Sumatra.
The monkeys are hanging from their tails in several scenes, but monkeys with grasping tails are only found in South America.
Set in India, yet the monkeys' ruined city is clearly Cambodian.
Hathi, a bull Asian elephant, is the leader of the elephant when in reality elephants are a matriarch society. The herd is led by the top cow elephant (Winifred). Once a bull elephant becomes matured, he would either go alone or join a group of other bulls.
King Louie lacks the beard and floppy cheeks of a real male orangutan.
Wolf cubs do not wag their tails when they are curious. The tail wag among wolves is largely a sign of submission.
During "The Bare Necessities", when Baloo sings "I'll tell you something true", and prepares to belly flop out of the water, a whitish streak appears on his right arm for one frame; this most likely was due to a colorist's error.
Incorrectly regarded as goofs
After the fight with the monkeys Baloo and Bagheera have black eyes. They seem to be reversed at one point, but that's because they're looking at reflections in a pond.
During "The Bare Necessities", when Baloo is about to fly off the waterfall, his right arm is incorrectly colored yellow for one frame, likely a colorist's error.
When Mowgli finds Baloo presumably dead, Bagheera arrives on the scene and gently comforts the young man-cub, saying "Mowgli... try to understand". However, as he's saying this, his nose erroneously turns dark grey for one frame.
