  • This is a silly little slapstick comedy, very typical for the kind which were quite popular in Germany from the mid 1950s to the early 1970s. Although they are now less fondly remembered, these films were quite similar in style and tone to the British Carry-On films, and I might add: also in quality.

This one here is below par, partly because most of the top-notch comedians in the cast (Willy Millowitsch, Ralf Wolter, Heinz Erhardt, Edith Hancke) only appear briefly in roles that are only remotely connected to the plot - "pay the rent" stuff, albeit well executed. Still, the main cast does a good job, with the exception of Terry Torday whose approach of playing an auditor I might politely describe as bizarre. What makes films like this nowadays less fashionable than their Carry-On cousins are the (compulsory) serious romantic subplots which now appear terribly dated.

There are signs that the film went into production before the script was finished, e.g. the name of the character played by Terry Torday, although central, isn't revealed to us until very very late in the movie. Up to then she's referred as "a lady", or "that terrible person". Christiane Ruecker's character didn't fare much better.
