Actor Jack Albany, who plays gangsters on TV, is mistaken for notorious hit-man Ace, and is hired by mob boss Leo Smooth to pull a heist, but Jack must find a way out of it.
This film was one of several Disney films that featured individuals facing off with criminals: on television, the Mickey Mouse Club featured installments of the Hardy Boys and on screen, The Moon-Spinners found Hayley Mills battling a thief. On the prime time Wonderful World of Disney, the miniseries The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh saw a ruthless masked vigilante battle evildoers in 18th century England, starring Patrick McGoohan in the title character. Later, the studio did comic films like this one, balancing drama with comedy, which attracted families and other fans.
Leo Joseph Smooth:
I brought Cowboy in from Vegas. Fastest tommy gun in the West.
Cowboy Schaeffer: Aw, shucks, Joe.
Jack picks up a dog biscuit to eat when Francis catches him in the kitchen. When he leaves to go back to his room, he puts the dog biscuit in his left coat pocket. Later, when he crawls on the ledge, the dog barks at him. So, he tosses the dog biscuit to quiet the dog - three separate times - and takes them from his right coat pocket.
Original VHS by Disney is 90 minutes, whereas the film's initial release and dvd release run 99 minutes.
