A crafty serial killer plays a game of cat-and-mouse with a harried police detective trying to track him down.
At the end, the dying killer calls out two expressions. He says, "Oh sweet Jesus save me" and, "Oh my beloved savior please save me." In the book, "Purgatory: Explained by the Lives and Legends of the Saints" which was written in the late 19th century by the French Jesuit priest, F.X. Schouppe, it explains that a person can call out short prayers similar to these to either avoid hell, or shorten his time in purgatory.
That girl is a gem! An absolute gem! And I'll tell you something else...
Morris Brummel: What?
Mrs. Brummel: She reminds me of me!
The opening scene shows what appears to be a red-haired Rod Steiger dressed in priest clothing walking down the sidewalk but that is actually a double. The real Rod Steiger ascends the steps a couple of seconds too early for the progression of time to be credible. This effect compromised the continuity, but it was probably done intentionally so as to hasten the scene.
