After being sold to a mortician, young orphan Oliver Twist runs away and meets a group of boys trained to be pickpockets by an elderly mentor.
The only film based on Oliver Twist where Oliver is not seen being sent to the workhouse. (This was apparently filmed but deleted.) Instead it begins in medias res, as he is first seen helping other orphans grind flour at the start of the film.
I thieved for you when I was half his age and it's your dirty work I've been doing ever since.
Bill: Well if you have it's a living ain't it?
Fagin: Yes, a living is a living.
Nancy: Some living, Lord help me, some living!
The steps at London Bridge are depicted wrong. The real steps were narrow at the top, and widened horizontally at the bottom, allowing a person to hide and eavesdrop on (or watch) those on the upper steps without being seen. The book got this right.
