"Saat Hindustani" as you all know marks the debut of mega star, Amitabh Bachchan. Besides this, not much has been heard of this film. Wonder why this film has been lost, as it's pretty different and unique in its presentation. The story is based on the freedom fight of Goa against Portuguese, in which six Indians from different states of the country unite with a Goan girl to hoist Indian flags in seven police stations of Goa. In terms of narration, the film seems to be much inspired from the Kurosawa classics, hardly with any songs. The film uses an entire new cast, for which the film generates a curiosity. The major flaws the film depict are the technical aspects. I guess the late '60s movies had come a lot of way than this. The dialogues and photography are hardly up to the mark; and many sequences get dragging at times. The combat training scenes look childish. Perhaps V. Shataram's films from '40s and '50s were more technically sound than this one. Despite all the technical flaws of this film, the film still attracts for the novel story it covers, Amitabh Bachchan as a new comer, and B/W photography to depict the time era though much could have been done to make this film better. In the aspect. "Haqeeqat" (1966) which I watched early last year was way ahead of its time in terms of story and techniques. But still I recommend this film over "Pukar" (1983) which is also based on the rebellion of Goa.
