This inferior Zorro with Spaghetti style is a mediocre adaptation inspired from Johnston McCulley character starred by Fabio Testi as the dashing masked avenger named Don Diego . It deals with Fred (Carlos Romero Marchent , director's brother and usual player in his films) who arrives in his town and aware his father has been killed . Meanwhile , the nasty baron land (Andres Mejuto) and his hoodlums (Piero Lulli , Miguel De La Riva) carry out a heist and murders , being wrongly accused Fred . He is detained by the sheriff (Luis Induni) , condemned by the judge (Eduardo Calvo) and locked . But Zorro (Fabio Testi) intervenes and frees him . Fred finds protection from a Zorro's friend (Frank Braña) and his daughter (Simone Blondell , daughter of Demofilo Fidani or Miles Deem deemed the Italian Ed Wood , and here credited as set decorator ) . At the end takes place an attack on a saloon in which are reunited the good guys , but Zorro reunites forces and helps unfortunates .
This Paella/Spaghetti Western is filled with action , thrills , intrigue , spectacular horse ridding by Zorro and crossfire . In this Zorro starred by Fabio Testi , under pseudonym Martin Monroe , took a chance and jumped from modern action to costumed Western-adventures ; he steals the show as foppish Zorro relishing his secret identity dressed in black ; executing bounds and leaps , twists and climbs and throughly enjoys himself .In the movie appears usual support actors as Spanish : Frank Braña , Luis Induni , Andres Mejuto , Eduardo Calvo as Italian players as Riccardo Garrone , and Piero Lulli . The motion picture is middling written and directed and in ordinary style by Rafael Romero Marchent . Rafael is an expert writer and director of Spaghetti Western as proved in ¨Two crosses on Danger Pass¨, Cry for revenge¨ and ¨Two guns for two twins¨ . While his brother Joaquin Marchent is deemed the Paella Western's best director , his first film was ¨El Coyote¨ and the sequel titled ¨Revenge of Coyote¨ shot in Mexico ; after that , he filmed ¨The shadow of Zorro¨ and ¨Revenge of Zorro¨, he went go directing Western as ¨ Riding to death ¨ , ¨Adventures in the West¨ , ¨Three good men¨, ¨Sabor Venganza ¨ and the most popular and violent ¨Condenados a Vivir¨ . Plus , he wrote for his brother Rafael Romero Marchent the followings Western : ¨Manos Torpes¨, ¨Ocaso Un Pistolero¨ and ¨Garringo¨ . Rating : below average Zorro movie , it contains some flaws and gaps and badly developing . Only for the Spaghetti Western aficionados .
The motion picture is produced by Eduardo Manzanos Brochero who started producing ¨Il Coyote¨ and ¨The Jiusticia De Coyote¨ by Joaquin Romero Marchent with Abel Salazar and Gloria Marin . After that , he produced with his company Copercines ¨Vengeance of Zorro¨ and ¨L'Ombra di Zorro¨ (1962) by Joaquin Marchent with Frank Latimore , Paul Piaget and Robert Hundar . Eduardo Manzanos built a Western town in Hoyo De Manzanares (Madrid) , today disappeared , called ¨Golden City¨ where filmed several Western as Welcome Padre Murray , Brandy and various Zorros . The best Zorro are the following : The mute classic adaptation ¨Mark of Zorro¨ 1920, Fred Niblo, with Douglas Fairbanks, the classic ¨Mark of Zorro¨, 1940, Robert Mamoulian with Tyrone Power, Basil Rathbone and Linda Darnell), and followed by ¨The legend of Zorro¨ 2005, Martin Campbell again with Banderas and Catherine Zeta Jones, Tony Amendola,Pedro Armendariz and Rufus Sewell . European version in similar style as ¨Le Tulipe Noie¨ (1964) with Alain Delon and Virna Lisi and ¨Zorro¨(1975, Duccio Tessari with Alain Delon, Octavia Piccolo and Stanley Baker .
