Ray Bradbury originally wrote 'The Screaming Woman' as a radio play, broadcast on November 25, 1948.
Toward the end of the film, Laura's son, Howard, asks the doctor if his mother is remembering the woman in Florida who was buried alive by the kidnappers. This is a reference to Barbara Jane Mackle, who was kidnapped and buried alive in a purpose-built ventilated box in 1968. In 1972, a year after this film was made, director Jack Smight and screenwriter Merwin Gerard would collaborate again on The Longest Night, a film about the Mackle kidnapping.
The October 5, 2021 DVD release has a special feature of an audio commentary by Film Historian/Screenwriter, Gary Gerani.
