One Michael Jackson song seems to be about a regular friendship. It’s actually about a friendship with a killer rat. Jackson revealed how this tune came together so fast, even though he struggled with a lot of self-doubt.
1 Michael Jackson song was the theme for a horror film
Listen to any of Jackson’s songs, and it’s clear he put lots of effort into his music. Even when he didn’t write or produce his music, his voice was impeccable. All these years later, he rhymes one of pop music’s best singers.
During a 1980 interview posted to Blank on Blank, Jackson said he was a perfectionist, but that didn’t mean he always worked slowly. “I do vocals pretty quick,” he explained. “But for instance ‘Ben,’ I did in one take. I went right in and cut it.” For context, “Ben” is a ballad about a killer...

Bosun Ben Willoughby is once again taking heat from Bravo viewers after the first seven minutes of episode 11 released show him being very flirty with new stewardess Paris Field. He repeatedly gets touchy with her, which he was doing at the end of episode 10 on the crew day off. His boatmance flame Sunny Marquis wasn’t having his sleazy player games, and called him out on it while out for dinner at the start of episode 11. Many viewers who watched the preview were also bashing Ben getting handsy with Paris and found she was uncomfortable. “What the .

“House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon will co-write the script for “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.”
He’ll pen the Lucasfilm project alongside James Mangold, who will also direct the film. It will trace the origins of the Force and will be set 25,000 years before any other “Star Wars” project previously seen.
“It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the force,” Mangold told Variety in 2023 when the film was announced. “When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, ‘I just see this opening to make kind of a ‘Ben-Hur’ or ‘The 10 Commandments’ about the birth of the force.’ The force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that’s what I’m writing right now.

Jennifer Lopez has canceled seven dates of her highly anticipated North American tour, which marks her return after a five-year hiatus. The tour will support her latest album, This Is Me… Now, as well as two companion films.
The canceled dates, originally scheduled from August 20 to 31, included stops in Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans and Houston.
The album, tour and companion films are part of a self-financed, ambitious $20 million multimedia project that delves into Lopez’s life as a serial romantic. The project explores her reunion with actor Ben Affleck, whom she married in 2022, almost two decades after their high-profile split after the release of their ill-fated 2003 romantic comedy, Gigli.
Lopez herself acknowledged the skepticism around the project, and told Variety, “Everybody thought I was crazy. And by the way, I thought I was crazy.”

Plenty of $1 billion box office hits have been nominated for best picture, but Academy voters have tended to opt for smaller, specialty fare when handing out the top prize. Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer upended the traditional order Sunday night when it won best picture at Oscars 2024, one of seven wins for the historical biopic.
The film has reaped north of $957 million at the worldwide box office, the top gross of any best picture victor since The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2004 (that grossed $1.15 billion). Oppenheimer is also the first best picture winner in more than a decade to earn north of $100 million at the domestic box office since Ben Affeck’s Argo (that earned $136 million domestically and $232.3 million globally.) And it’s the first best picture winner released in July — the heart of summer movie season — since Forrest Gump in 1994.

The 96th Academy Awards is knocking at the door with merely a few hours left for celebrities to rejoice in the event and take home the most coveted award in the entertainment industry. This year, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer is the biggest contender of the night, with the most number of nominations to its name.
A still from The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
Previously, just like Oppenheimer, the fantasy genre movie The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King once dominated the Academy Awards with the most number of nominations. Breaking records with 11 Oscar wins, despite being a fantasy movie, The Lord of the Rings got associated with two films from wildly different genres —Titanic and Ben-Hur, for winning equal number of Academy Awards.

Magpie revolves around a toxic heterosexual marriage dynamic you’ve certainly seen a thousand times before, if not in real life then at least in pop culture. Annette (Daisy Ridley) is the long-suffering wife, who’s sacrificed her career to cook and clean and raise children for an ungrateful man. Ben (Shazad Latif) is that ungrateful man, who seems to notice Annette only when he’s ticked off with her.
When a glamorous actress (Matilda Lutz’s Alicia) enters their lives via a movie role for their daughter (Hiba Ahmed’s Tilly), it’s practically a foregone conclusion that Ben will further neglect Annette in favor of this shiny new romance. The big question, then, is what Annette might do — what a woman already on the edge might prove capable of once she’s pushed. But despite a juicy hook built on heated emotions and drastic actions, Magpie proves too...

“Oppenheimer” is the most nominated film at this year’s Oscars with 13 nominations. That’s one shy of the all-time record of 14 nominations so it missed out on Oscars history in the nomination phase.
However, Universal’s movie could match Academy Awards history in the awards phase by equalling the record of 11 Oscar wins overall. So far, three films have won 11 Academy Awards. They were “Ben-Hur” in 1960, “Titanic” in 1998, and “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King” in 2004. Here’s the breakdown of what awards they won.

Just 30 minutes after final voting for the Screen Actors Guild Awards wrapped up, I made a last-minute switch in my best actress prediction — from Lily Gladstone in “Killers of the Flower Moon” to Emma Stone in “Poor Things.” Let this be a lesson: Second-guessing yourself is seldom a good idea.
Lily Gladstone made history as the first Native American and Indigenous person to clinch an individual SAG Award for her portrayal of Mollie Burkhart, an Osage woman, in Martin Scorsese’s gripping crime saga. With a lead actress (drama) Golden Globe and a SAG Award now under her belt, Gladstone’s award-season momentum continues to be formidable. Historically, only seven performers have failed to win the Oscar after winning the unique combination of Globe and SAG:
1995: Lauren Bacall (“The Mirror Has Two Faces”) lost to Juliette Binoche 2001: Russell Crowe (“A Beautiful Mind”) lost to Denzel Washington (“Training Day...

Below Deck fans have blasted deckhand Ben Willoughby for his messy behavior and stirring the pot on Season 11.
Ben came in hot for his second stint on the hit yachting show after not being given the bosun role.
Instead, he returned as a lead deckhand, immediately taking issue with Bosun Jared Woodin.
Ben isn’t necessarily wrong for his treatment of Jared, who doesn’t seem to be able to hack it as bosun.
What he is wrong for, though, is stirring the pot between stews Cat Baugh and Barbie Pascual.
Ben’s actions have Below Deck fans coming for him, just like Fraser Olender did in the most recent episode.

Nicola Maccanico, a former Warner Bros. and Sky Italia senior exec, has been spearheading the radical overhaul of Rome’s Cinecittà Studios since April 2021, when the government-owned facilities embarked on a mission to secure a multi-million dollar loan provided by the European Union’s post-pandemic recovery fund.
Three years later, the studios are equipped with 20 state-of-the-art soundstages, including one of Europe’s largest LED walls, and have become a magnet for Hollywood productions such as Roland Emmerich’s gladiator series “Those About to Die.” As the production hiatus brought on by the Hollywood strikes eases up, more U.S. shoots are soon to come, he vows.
Below, Maccanico discusses with Variety what he’s accomplished in terms of reviving the studios and what remains to be done.

As the year winds down, it’s time to look back at Netflix’s biggest hits, and today, we begin by looking into what kids’ TV shows picked up the most points in the Netflix top 10s over the past 12 months.
This list is compiled using FlixPatrol data collected from the daily top 10s on Netflix from over 80 countries around the globe. They assign points and values to each title that gets featured on any day. Their data isn’t perfect as their method doesn’t quite fully capture the complexity of viewership data, such as total watch time, repeat viewings, or demographic details of the audience. Also worth noting is that Netflix changed up its top 10 metrics midway through the year to favor views over pure viewing hours. That said, their data provides a pretty accurate snapshot of what performed best over a long period.

As an actor, Matthew Perry was nominated for four Emmys. He was a regular in the generation-defining ensemble smash Friends and, as a guest star, seamlessly integrated into the spectacular ensemble on shows like The West Wing and The Good Wife.
The show that best understood Perry’s sensibility and, more than that, the essence of what he projected best onscreen may not have been one of his signature successes, and may not be one of the first half-dozen shows that heartbroken fans look back on as we reflect on Perry, who died this weekend at 54. Empirically, it wasn’t a success at all.
Go On ran for 22 episodes on NBC between 2012 and 2013 and was canceled after that lone season. It has fans — any show with an ensemble that included Tyler James Williams, Laura Benanti, Brett Gelman, Sarah Baker, John Cho and more is going to find fans — but only a small audience.

As those who went out to see “Killers of the Flower Moon” since it opened last Friday can attest, it’s a challenge for anyone to make it all the way through without a bathroom break. The film is three hours and 26 minutes, or 206 minutes, without an intermission, testing bladders from sea to shining sea. But by itself, does the Martin Scorsese-directed epic’s marathon length make it a better or worse bet to win the Academy Award for Best Picture?
Let’s just say that it’s fairly rare – but in no way unprecedented – for a movie that’s at or exceeds three hours to take the Oscar crown.
In fact, of the 95 films to cart off the Best Picture trophy, 11 have clocked in at or exceeded three hours. That’s just a tick under 10.5 percent. So it doesn’t exactly happen every year, or even every other...

Emmy-winning production designer and a past president of the Art Directors Guild Thomas Walsh is in prepro and raising funds to make a documentary about pioneering art director and painter Ben Carré (1883-1978), whose little-known story, which begins in Paris with the invention of motion pictures, also serves as an early history of his art form.

The grand-scale Biblical epics that midcentury Hollywood churned out to roaring box-office returns had many drawcards as (so to speak) mass entertainment — brawny action, transporting spectacle, then jaw-dropping effects — but a sense of humor, by and large, wasn’t one of them. That’s something British musician-turned-filmmaker Jeymes Samuel attempts to rectify in his offbeat messiah story “The Book of Clarence,” a newly invented tale that runs parallel to the life and death of Jesus in ways both blithely blasphemous and sincerely Christian. Following on from Samuel’s debut, the rollicking hip-hop western “The Harder They Fall,” with its flagrantly anachronistic remix of genre traditions and a predominantly Black cast, “Clarence” clearly seeks to be the first film loosely of its type to make any pop-cultural impact since Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” nearly 20 years ago.
It’ll certainly prove a hard sell to the U.S.

It’s not every day that a filmmaker will rise up during an interview and recite Old Testament tales and sing out their favorite hymn. Well, hallelujah, brother Jeymes Samuel for spreading the gospel’s good news.
The director’s spectacular Jesus in the hood movie, The Book of Clarence, starring a mighty fine Lakeith Stanfield playing a charlatan wannabe Messiah, shakes up the toga and peepy toe genre.
Samuel’s movie has its world premiere Wednesday at the BFI London Film Festival. The Legendary Pictures production is released through Tristar with congregations taking their pews from January 12, 2024.
The movie’s thrilling prologue kicks off with a rip-roaring, wheel-screeching chariot race with Mary Magdalene thrashing the lads.
The moment was of course inspired by the iconic chariot scene between Charlton Heston’s Judah Ben-Hur and Stephen Boyd’s Messala in William Wyler...

Alec Mercer is a psychology professor with a tortured past who is intrigued by why people make the nonsensical choices they do. And if that doesn’t sound like the perfect main character for a primetime procedural… you must not have been watching TV for very long.
Indeed, we see Alec (played by The Flash‘s Jesse L. Martin) doing his thing right at the beginning of NBC’s The Irrational, which premiered Monday. “People are irrational, but predictably so,” he voiceovers, adding that many of us make choices based on instincts that are “almost always wrong. Sometimes, dangerously wrong.

Heartstopper Season 2 Episode 8 left us with one of the sweetest cliffhangers we have ever seen, and if you weren't kicking your feet in the air as Charlie typed those words on his phone, were you watching the same show and, more importantly, are you okay?
We were almost guaranteed to get a third season of the show. Now, the most challenging part is the waiting period.
We have compiled all the information you need about the season as we await the release to tide you over.
Once it comes out, we will update this post with new information, so you might want to bookmark it.

We could have answered this question in the affirmative one year ago because a show rarely gets renewed for multiple seasons after the freshman has premiered.

In 2021, Jeymes Samuel unleashed “The Harder They Fall,” a revisionist Black Western with an All-Star cast and an equally impressive soundtrack. He turned the genre on its head, while still celebrating everything that he loved about Westerns of the past. And he looks to be doing the same thing with his new biblical epic “The Book of Clarence,” due out at the beginning of next year from TriStar Pictures and Legendary. And you can watch the brand-new trailer for it above.
“The Book of Clarence” stars Lakeith Stanfield as a man living in Jerusalem at the same time as Jesus. Inspired by Jesus’ rise, he “risks everything to carve his own path to a divine life, and ultimately discovers that the redemptive power of belief may be his only way out” (according to the official synopsis). The movie also stars Omar Sy, Anna Diop, Rj Cyler, David Oyelowo (rocking a...

Halle Berry wants to make talking about menopause a more acceptable thing.
The actress, 56, told Women’s Health in a new interview that she’s in the middle of menopause, but is her “best self” now that she’s reached her mid ’50s.
Berry shared, “The most important thing about owning your sexuality as a woman is accepting the station you’re at—and embracing that.
“And I say that because I’m smack dab in the middle of menopause. And I am challenging everything I thought I knew about menopause. Things like: ‘Your life is over.’ ‘You are disposable.’ ‘Society no longer has a place for you.’ ‘You should retire.’ ‘You should pack it up.’
“I’m challenging all those stereotypes about how you have to look a certain way or feel a certain way. I’m my best self now that I reached 56 years old,” Berry went on.

Content warning: The following story contains spoilers for "Only Murders in the Building."
Amid the bloodied handkerchiefs, Schmackary's cookies, and copious F-bombs in "Only Murders in the Building" season three so far, there are subtle Easter eggs referencing cast newcomer Paul Rudd - and they may have slipped right under your nose.
Rudd joins the Hulu series as Ben Glenroy, a douchey actor who leads Oliver's comeback Broadway play until he dies, comes back to life, and then dies again in the Arconia elevator shaft. At Ben's funeral in episode two, a man named Gregg (Adrian Martinez) lures Mabel (Selena Gomez) and Charles (Steve Martin) into his home under the guise of wanting to help solve Ben's death. Turns out he's not one of Ben's security guards, but rather a crazed stalker with an apartment full of Ben-themed memorabilia - and this is where those Easter eggs comes into play.

If you’ve heard me rant about this once, you’ve heard me rant about it a thousand times: Emmy categorizations are nonsense. Several of the year’s most nominated dramas — The White Lotus, Succession, Bad Sisters, among others — are, to me, absolutely satires with dramatic undertones. And several of the year’s most nominated comedies — Barry, The Bear, Ted Lasso, among others — are arguably closer to dramas, at least in their more recent seasons.
That’s the thing: Barry and Ted Lasso both decided, as they neared the end of their respective stories, that they were more driven by emotion than punchlines. The Bear didn’t exactly make a shift so much as Emmy voters found the show, with its 30-minute episode runtimes, easier to process as a comedy.

Ben Platt has apparently decided he’s no longer going to speak about his mega-producer father Marc Platt — and the internet is so not here for it.
During the press tour for his new film “Theater Camp,” which Platt cowrote with Molly Gordon (who herself is born to director Bryan Gordon and writer-director Jessie Nelson), a reporter for Rolling Stone asked him about being featured on New York Magazine’s infamous nepo baby cover from December.
“You were on the cover of New York Magazine’s Nepo Baby Issue. I’m curious what was your response to that? And what do you make of that whole discourse?” journalist Ej Dickson asked.
“We’re going to skip right over that if we can,” Platt responded.
“No comment?” Dickson responds.
The feature then indicated that Platt’s publicist intervened, saying, “If we could just focus on ‘Theater Camp,’ that would be great.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner are used to doing fight scenes and physical stunts in movies. But when it came to shooting Daredevil, Affleck asserted that Garner definitely had the edge on him.
Jennifer Garner put Ben Affleck to shame with their ‘Daredevil’ fight scenes Ben Affleck | Frederic J. Brown/Getty Images
Affleck and Garner both played superhero Daredevil and assassin Elektra in the 2003 superhero feature named after Affleck’s Marvel superhero. Being a superhero movie, the film required the pair to engage in more than a few fight scenes.
Whereas Affleck wasn’t too experienced in that department, Garner already had an advantage as she spent years choreographing fights on Alias. So when it came time for the two to face each other on camera, Garner may have had an easier time.

Bleecker Street has nabbed North American rights to first-time feature director Andrew Cumming’s Stone Age-set horror thriller The Origin.
The film from Sony Pictures’ Stage 6 had its world premiere at the 2022 BFI London Film Festival and was nominated for five British Independent Film Awards, winning one in the best breakthrough performance category for Safia Oakley-Green (Sherwood, Extraordinary). The script was written by Ruth Greenberg (Run), with Escape Plan Productions’ Oliver Kassman (Saint Maud) producing.
Bleecker Street is planning a fall/winter theatrical release, it unveiled on Tuesday as the Cannes Film Festival market was set to open.
Set more than 45,000 years in the past, the movie tells the story of a gang of early humans who band together in search of a new land. “When they suspect a malevolent, mystical, being is hunting them down, the clan is forced to confront a horrifying danger they never imagined,” according to a plot description.
