During the scene with "the naked Turk" in the bathroom, the Blob has supposedly eaten his dog off screen. When the Turk throws the telephone through the window so he can escape, you can see the dog is gone BUT the Blob is still the same size as it was before it ate the dog.
The original release began with a four-minute pre-credits scene of a bulldozer's encounter with unearthing the frozen Blob at a construction site in the snow-covered Arctic landscape. Without this scene, there is no explanation of Chester's job on the pipeline, or of what is in his container, or where and exactly how did he obtain his Blob sample from.
