Dortmunder and his pals plan to steal a huge diamond from a museum. But this turns out to be only the first time they have to steal it...
"Sis"'s name is Clara Dortmunder Kelp.
I won't pay a penny more than $25,000 a man.
Dortmunder: I didn't ask for any more.
Dr. Amusa: It comes to a total of exactly $100,000. Four men. If you need five, you'll each take less.
Kelp: What if we can do it with three?
Dr. Amusa: That will still be $25,000. I wouldn't want to ...
Dortmunder is mugged for his watch, which is a wide leather banded watch whose buckle strap tapers to a thin strip. Later, in the helicopter when he says "Not me", we see him wearing a brown leather watch with a wide buckle strap this time, presumably a replacement. However, later we see him in the bar wearing a watch with a metal wristband.
The 20th Century Fox logo is erased away via a "snake effect".
The version of the film shown on AMC (American Movie Classics) features an extra scene after Robert Redford has already left the bank with the Sahara diamond with his partners, where Zero Mostel and Moses Gunn arrive at the bank not knowing that Redford had taken the diamond from the safety deposit box. The newly released DVD by Fox omits this scene and the film ends as they getaway in the station wagon driving along Park Avenue and the End Credits shown instantly afterwards.
