Summer is coming, and what better way to languish away in the hot heat than poolside with Alain Delon and Romy Schneider? They star together with Maurice Ronet and Jane Birkin in Jacques Deray’s 1969 thriller “La Piscine,” a volley of sexual jealousies and resentments between four people vacationing in the Côte d’Azur, which provides the perfect backdrop to simmering psychosexual tensions. One of the biggest box office successes in France of all time, “La Piscine” is getting a re-release from Rialto Pictures this summer, kicking off with a two-week exclusive run at Film Forum in New York beginning May 14. Then, the restoration will begin a national rollout.
In “La Piscine,” Jean-Paul and Marianne (Delon and Schneider) are spending an idyllic holiday together at a luxurious villa near St. Tropez, loaned to them by a friend. Their sensual solitude is interrupted by the impromptu arrival of their mutual friend Harry,...

Is Luke Cage being sidelined in his own show? Here are our episode 6 viewing notes. Spoilers ahead...
Luke Cage is back! In his own show! And so are our Marvel-Netflix episode notes where we’ll do a bit of commentary and reference-spotting for each episode of the series. Feel free to read along as you watch too, but please don’t spoil future episodes for anyone in the comments!
This episode saw Scarfe living up to his crooked nature and eventually paying the ultimate price for it – though I was totally on side with those aghast at Cottonmouth just murdering a cop and expecting to walk away from that. Clearly, things are escalating fast.
This is also one of those episodes that makes me see the complaint that Luke isn’t in his own show enough – and even when he is in it, he’s not really in the driving seat.

Episode 3 had some powerful scenes, not least Pop’s funeral, but this is where the show’s pacing really starts to become clear. It’s obvious that Luke Cage is a superbly written show – easily of a quality far higher than anything else Marvel has put on TV so far – but it’s considerably lighter on action.
I find the additional breathing space really helps us flesh out the characters and world, but it also means I...

Next month sees McM Expo, the UK’s most famous comic con, arrive in Manchester. Bringing the best in pop culture entertainment to the city for the first time, the event will be held at Manchester Central (formerly G-mex) on July 30th, bringing all the magic of London’s McM Expo to the North West (finally).
From the press release:
Whether it’s major games publishers such as Nintendo or leading film studios like Universal; top comic artists or sports star special guests; sci-fi collectables or cosplay competitions, there’ll be something there for everyone!
Already hosting hit shows in London and Birmingham, the McM Expo Group thought it was high time that Manchester got to experience the fun of a comic con. So if you’re a fan of sci-fi; videogames; movies; comics; cosplay; manga or anime, make sure you come along to the Manchester Comic Con on 30 July.

Again only comics I’ve bought that were published in 2010. If you think I’ve missed something please let me know in the comments section below, after all this is only mine and Phil’s opinions. I’m always open to trying new things… comics, I mean comics!
1: Uncanny X-Force | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Jerome Opena
Only 3 issues in an this series is looking like the best X-Men series currently being published, and that’s not to say the titles by Fraction, Gillen, Carey, and David aren’t good, it’s just that Uncanny X-Force has that certain something that makes it stand out. It’s a combination of the tight, fast paced writing of Remender, the amazing art by Opena and White, and lots of little touches that the creators add that make it a perfect comic.
2: Avengers Children’s Crusade | Marvel | W: Allan Heinberg | A:...

Another selection of favourites from the Baron, look out for my Festive Fortnightly Favourites once I find some Christmas themed comics.
Uncanny X-Force 2 | Marvel | W: Rick Remender | A: Jerome Opena
This is one of the best comics I picked up this fortnight and the story of the new X-Force verse the resurrected Apocalypse is really building into a classic X-Men story. I’ve found comics produced without an inking stage to be very hit or miss, Jerome Opena’s pencils with Dean White’s colouring are definitely a hit, the use of pinks, purples, blues and greys sets this comic apart from the other mutant comics, and Opena’s facial expressions and figure work is spot on. Even the panel borders get a thumbs up from me, with panels set in the danger room having a soft edge, which hardens as the danger room program shuts down. Also check out the shot of Cavern-x,...

I’m Baron Fortnightly and these are my recommendations for comics that have shipped in the last two weeks.
Pilot Season: 7 Days From Hell | Image Comics | W: Bryan Edward Hill & Rob Levin | A: Phil Noto
Interesting story about redemption in which an assassin who’s saved from Hell by a female demon/fallen angel who gives him a target to kill every 7 days, if he doesn’t make the deadline he goes back to hell. All done in Noto’s trademark style.
Turf 3 (of 5) | Image Comics | W: Jonathan Ross | A: Tommy Lee Edwards
Less wordy that the first issue, it’s good to see plot threads coming together, especially as there are so many of them – vampires, aliens, mobsters and reporters… oh my, and all drawn by Edwards.
The New Avengers 5 | Marvel | W: Brian Michael Bendis | A: Stuart Immonen
I think there are more word balloons in this issue than...

Earlier this week Marvel released two “…For Hire” teasers – featuring Elektra alongside the caption ‘Assassin for Hire’; and The Falcon with the caption ‘Wingman for Hire’. Well now we have another two teasers in the same series, which – if you read this post – you’ll know are promoting the return of Marvel’s iconic Heroes For Hire comic book.
These teasers feature Misty Knight and Paladin, who can currently be seen in Antony Johnston’s most excellent Shadowland: Blood on the Streets mini-series. Of course for those in the know, both Misty and Paladin appeared in the last iteration of Heroes for Hire which spun out of Marvel’s huge Civil War event.

Welcome to another edition of The Pull List. This edition covers my comic purchases for the first two weeks of August – which brings us bang up to date with this weeks release! Between less comics to buy and a busy schedule it’s been hard to keep up, hopefully this should now return to its regular fortnightly schedule
As usual if you’ve missed any of the previous entries you can check them out right here.
My Pull List
Booster Gold #35
Deadpool #1000
Justice League: Generation Lost #7
Shadowland: Blood on the Streets #1
Ultimate Avengers 3 #1
The Good
