Daniel Holzman (Chris Davis) was performing at a children's playhouse, when one of the actors from the movie came by to watch. He asked him to meet with Writer and Director Larry Cohen, and he did a couple of days later. The meeting seemed pretty informal, with him just reading a few lines and that was it. Larry asked him to be in the movie, and he said yes. He had a good working relationship with Cohen who Holzman said seemed 'nice and patient with me. I remember for one scene he said "Throw some water on the kid's puss." I never heard that expression for someone's face before and it stuck with me.' He enjoyed working with John P. Ryan who he described as very fatherly and cool; Sharon Farrell seemed a little high strung. In one scene she slapped him a few times before they did it to try and get me to cry. Later she asked him to slap her, which he did, pretty hard too as he recalled.
