This is going to stun anyone who grew up on 21st century superhero cinema (which kicked off in 2000 with Bryan Singer's "X-Men" and only now seems to be on the wane), but what if I told you that in the 1970s, there were television series dedicated to the Hulk, Wonder Woman, and Spider-Man, and they weren't the main small-screen pop cultural obsessions for sci-fi/fantasy fans? Not even close.

The close-knit "Star Trek" family has lost one of their own today. Actor Gary Graham, most well-known for playing the role of the Vulcan Ambassador Soval in "Star Trek: Enterprise," sadly passed away early in the morning January 23, 2024. His death was first announced in a Facebook post by his ex-wife and actor Susan Lavelle (viaParade.com). No cause of death has yet been revealed, except that it was described as "sudden." Graham was 73 years old.
In addition to starring in "Enterprise" and even showing up for a brief appearance in "Star Trek: Voyager," Graham was more than willing to lend his talents to various roles in "Star Trek" fan films throughout the years, bringing Soval back to life in several unofficial movies that may not be formally sanctioned in the official canon of the franchise, but nonetheless speaks to the actor's passion for the character and his appreciation for the Trekkie community.

Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery (Incastrati) is an Italian series directed by and starring Salvatore Ficarra and Valentino Picone.
Framed! A Sicilian Murder Mystery begins its second season with this seventies tone and with these characters that are far-removed from Hollywood clichés. A different sense of humor, local, but certainly refreshing and charming, very tender.
About the Series
If you haven’t seen it, give it a fair chance because the series has a special touch, very Italian, a very made-for-tv style, and with a great sense of cinematic irony.
A retro series that finds its rhythm in this story where everything is mixed together and where almost anything goes to entertain us for a while.
A series that achieves what it sets out to do: to take us back in time, in situations, characters, setting and photographic style.
It doesn’t aim to do absolutely anything else.

Starsky and Hutch will be headed back to the streets as THR has reported that Fox Entertainment is developing a reboot of the iconic 1970s cop show.
The modern “reimagining” of Starsky and Hutch will follow two female detectives this time around, Sasha Starsky and Nicole Hutchinson. “They solve crimes in the offbeat town of Desert City while staying true to their friendship, their awesomeness, and somehow also trying to unravel the mystery behind who sent their fathers to prison 15 years ago for a crime they didn’t commit,” reads THR’s description. Sam Sklaver (Prodigal Son) and Elizabeth Peterson (The Resident) are behind the potential series, but Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn told THR that he expects to see at least two scripts before he makes his choice.

Italian medical drama series Doc – Nelle Tue Mani is getting a U.S. remake.
A U.S. version of the series, which comes from Italian producer Lux Vide, the company behind Aidan Turner series Leonardo, is in the works at Fox.
Michael Thorn, President of Scripted Programming at Fox, told Deadline that the network has a “couple of pieces of material that are being worked on as we speak”.
The move further into medical development comes as the future of long-running series The Resident hangs in the balance. The show just ended its sixth season but Thorn said that he hasn’t made a decision yet as to whether this will be its final season.
The Italian series follows a doctor who suffers a major head injury that wipes 12 years from his memory. It was the most-watched Italian series in the last 13 years with its run on public broadcaster Rai.

Did you happen to catch the season premiere of NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” a few weeks ago?
The show’s “cold open” was a spoof of “Monday Night Football,” with guest host Miles Teller impersonating NFL analyst Peyton Manning and “SNL” writer and feature player Andrew Dismukes imitating his brother Eli. Except instead of talking sports, the two focused their running commentary on “SNL” itself, ripping apart a separate skit-within-a-skit, shown in split screen, in which other cast members bumbled around the stage as Donald Trump and his minions at Mar-a-Lago during Hurricane Ian.
“Let’s take a look at the stats so far,” Teller quipped a few minutes into the program. “Fourteen attempted jokes, only one mild laugh and three chuckles.”
“I hear they stayed up till 5 a.m. writing this show,” Dismukes chimed in.
“What time did they start writing? 4:30?” cracked Teller.

Exclusive: David Meunier (Justified) and Dee Wallace (Just Add Magic) have joined the cast of Fatal Attraction, the upcoming Paramount+ series that reimagines the classic 1980s psychosexual thriller film.
Meunier will portray Richard Macksey, a psychology professor at the university and Ellen’s (Alyssa Jirrels) thesis advisor, mentor, and friend, whose personal interest in the work and life of Carl Jung ignites Ellen’s own interest.
Wallace will portray Emma Rauch, who is described as open, friendly, chic, and interested but also sensitive to boundaries. She is a retired career woman, enthusiastic and helpful volunteer, mother of adult children, and a student of life— someone anyone but Alex (Lizzy Caplan) would be thrilled to have as their neighbor.
Written by Alexandra Cunningham from a story she co-wrote with Kevin J. Hynes, Fatal Attraction explores the timeless themes of marriage and infidelity through the lens of modern attitudes towards strong women,...

After dropping the epic “Lord of the Rings” television series on Prime Video last month, it’s no surprise the streaming giant is taking it easy this October. They still have plenty of new shows and movies coming out, though none quite on the scale of their journey to Middle Earth.
That being said, they’re transitioning from the world of fantasy to science fiction with their new series “The Peripheral.” Touted as being from the creators of HBO’s “Westworld,” Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the time-traveling series is based on author William Gibson’s bestselling sci-fi novel.
Per an official synopsis: “The Peripheral” centers on Flynne Fisher (Moretz), a woman trying to hold together the pieces of her broken family in a forgotten corner of tomorrow’s America. Flynne is smart, ambitious, and doomed. She has no future; until the future comes calling for her. “The Peripheral” is...

Antonio Fargas (“Starsky and Hutch”) and Stephanie Sigman (“Miss Bala”) have joined star Mike Colter in Tubi’s ‘Murder City,’ the second movie filmed under Village Roadshow Pictures’ Black Noir Cinema franchise, co-founded by NBA great Kevin Garnett.
Last December, Variety exclusively announced “Murder City” as one of the first films slated for Black Noir Cinema, a lineup of genre movies developed and produced by Village Roadshow and Tubi, which will exclusively debut on the Fox-owned free streaming platform.
Described as a “thrilling contemporary crime story,” the film follows Neil (Colter), a disgraced former cop, who after losing his job on the police force is forced to work with the city’s most notorious — and ruthless — kingpin, Ash (Sigman), to settle the debts of his estranged, deadbeat father, Graham (Fargas), and protect his wife and son.

The “made for television movie” began in the 1960s. In fact, one of the most famous TV movies Don Siegel’s 1964 version of “The Killers” featuring Ronald Reagan in his last film role as a ruthless villain, ended up being released theatrically because it was considered too violent for television.
But the genre came of age in the 1970s.
Some of these movies that aired on the three broadcast networks were sheer shlock and others were pilots for prospective TV series. But it was also an embarrassment of riches. Who could forget the beloved 1971 ABC biopic “Brian’s Song,” starring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams, which was nominated for 11 Emmys and won five including outstanding single program (drama or comedy). The four-hankie weepie was so popular it was released theatrically.
Also briefly released theatrically was Steven Spielberg’s pulsating 1971 classic “Duel” starring Dennis Weaver which aired on ABC. Considered one...

Art Metrano, who played the officer Ernie Mauser in two Police Academy sequels and was a familiar face on episodic TV before a serious injury sustained in a home accident derailed his career in 1989, died of natural causes yesterday at his home in Aventura, Florida. He was 84.
“Yesterday I lost my best friend, my mentor, my dad,” Metrano’s son Harry Metrano posted today on Instagram. “He was and will always be the toughest man I know. I have never met someone who has over come more adversities than him…”
Metrano had already made appearances on such late-’60s TV series as Mannix, Mod Squad, The High Chaparral, Then Came Bronson, nearly a half-dozen episodes of Bewitched and in the 1969 Jane Fonda feature film They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? when a 1970 stand-up comedy performance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson significantly boosted his profile. To Carson’s obvious delight,...

Hopefully March will bring respite from crippling snow storms and frigid temperatures for much of the globe. And if it doesn’t? Well, Hulu’s got some new streaming options at least!
Hulu’s list of new releases for March 2021 are relatively slight on Hulu originals. Thankfully, one beloved original of note is coming back this month. Solar Opposites will premiere all episodes of its second season on March 26. This sci-fi animated comedy from Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is a breath of fresh alien air.
On the movie side of things, Hulu is premiering Boss Level on March 5. This actioner will star the delightful Frank Grillo and the decidedly less delightful Mel Gibson. Speaking of delightful though, the documentary Kid 90 will arrive on March 12. This comes from Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye and features hours of footage she shot in the ’90s that will depict what...

Back in the late 1970s, you couldn’t avoid the TV shows of Aaron Spelling. While each was iconic in its own way, there’s another that [...]
