The Academy Award-winning Marvel outing, Black Panther, has been voted the greatest superhero movie of all time. And fans of Zack Snyder are not happy. In what’s sure to be a controversial list of the top 50 superhero movies ever made put together by Rolling Stone, Black Panther was found to be number one, while Zack Snyder’s Justice League has been put at number fifty. But this isn’t the reason why fans have been left shaking their heads. No, when the list was first shared Zack Snyder’s Justice League was at the tippy top, with the publication having shared the list in reverse. By mistake, presumably.
While Zack Snyder's Justice League now has a very dedicated fanbase, the first ‘Top 10’ included such...questionable comic book movie efforts as 2007’s Ghost Rider, 1975’s Infra-Man, the first Thor, and 2010’s Megamind. Now that the list has been put the right way around,...

Back in 1975, Ho Meng Hua introduced his cool but deadly decapitating flying machine and caused a sensation. But the problematic official sequel didn’t really take off till 1978, a very long time for a follow-up. For a start, Ho was too busy with other projects like “Black Magic”, “The Mighty Peking Man” and “Vengeful Beauty”. Conversely, in 1976 both Chen Kuan Tai and Liu Wu Chi were keen to reprise their roles but Liu unexpectedly disappeared from the movie industry altogether but they quickly replaced her with Hsiao Yao.
Then in late 1967, leading man Chen abruptly left Shaw Brothers, and if that was not enough, Hsiao Yao also left the studio. At this point and not wanting to abandon the project, they signed up Ti Lung to take over Chen as Ma Teng and the role of his wife went to Chen Szu Chia. Meanwhile, the original director Cheng Kang (“14 Amazons...

By the early 1970s, heroes of Japanese tokusatsu – in particular the formative Ultraman – had grown in popularity so much they had spread all over the Far East, including Hong Kong. It was there that their resonance with audiences caught Shaw Brothers’ attention, who sought to emulate the genre in the hope of luring fans to their version of the popular medium. The result was “The Super Inframan”, (Known as “Chinese Superman” domestically) first released in 1975, a wacky, self-spoofing knockabout action film that is among the most entertaining and unforgettable titles of its type. It is clear, just looking at the character, that Ultraman is clearly on the radar of the Shaws, who left directing duties to Hua Shan. It is not clear whether the tone taken was also an intentional decision or the filmmakers went for a more parodying approach. Whatever the truth, the final product perfectly...
