| A very absorbing, detailed historical drama.
This is a richly detailed historical drama about the infamous Empress CiXi, who ruled during the Qing dynasty. She is considered to be a traitor in Chinese history. The screenplay is not without flaws, but the film is nevertheless very absorbing to watch. Li Han Xiang is a veteran director who had a long career in China, and this was one of his later films. He directed dozens of films since the 1950s, including the famous Love Eterne in 1963.

This film was actually made in China by Zhu River Film Production Company in 1988, not in Taiwan. The language is Mandarin, not Cantonese.
