A Missouri farmer joins a Confederate guerrilla unit and winds up on the run from the Union soldiers who murdered his family.
Clint Eastwood and Sondra Locke stayed at an unremarkable hotel in Oroville, California when production moved there in November. On Thanksgiving night, postcoital, Eastwood suddenly and unexpectedly leapt out of bed, threw open the hotel room door, and standing stark naked for the world, shouted "Sveeeeeeeeeetie! I love you-u-u-u-u."
Little Josey! C'mon in, let's get you cleaned up!
Josie and Jamie cross the Missouri river on a ferry (tethered barge). The Union pursuers are on the next barge trip, and Josie shoots the rope sending the barge down the river. Josey was headed South and West towards Texas, and presumably was on the west side of the river. The river should have been flowing the other direction.
The original UK cinema version was cut by 16 secs by the BBFC to edit the attempted rape of Laura Lee in order for the film to receive a 'AA' (14 and over) certificate. All later releases were upgraded to an '18' certificate and fully uncut.
