The Bandit is hired on to run a tractor trailer full of beer over state lines, in hot pursuit by a pesky sheriff.
When scenes were filmed in the Trans Am, it was not possible to use a slate to mark the beginning and end of scenes. The actors had to clap their hands instead to mark when a scene started and ended. Several outtakes show this being done.

When Snowman gets stopped by the bike cop, he says that Snowman was going 96 mph. In the shots before that, you can tell that Snowman was probably going about 65 mph because of how slow the scenery was going by.
