When Peter Hyams wrote and directed "Capricorn One," his inspiration came from the accusations that the Apollo Project's lunar landings were hoaxes. These have been discredited because, among other reasons, the technology that would have been necessary to falsify lunar landings did not actually exist at the time.

Several times a date is shown on the screen when we enter the mission control room. At the same time we hear a voice stating the number of days and hours since mission launch. The dates on the screen don't correspond to the number of days said to have passed between them.
