For one glorious and weirdly prolonged moment in the early 2000s, audiences simply couldn't get enough of body-swap comedies. Two extremely different people from very opposite walks of life magically turned into each other overnight! They looked the same and talked the same, but deep down they weren't who they seemed to be! Hijinks ensued!
Because Hollywood is absolutely no fun and more or less stopped letting movie stars do their thing, this trend died out with a whimper over time ... but maybe it's now getting the comeback it deserves? Rather than something new and original, however, Disney is going back to the drawing board and resurrecting 2003's Millennial classic "Freaky Friday." Disney is getting ready to get its freaky on one more time.
The studio has tapped Nisha Ganatra, who most recently helmed episodes of Hulu miniseries Welcome to Chippendales, to direct a sequel to its 2003 family comedy Freaky Friday, giving the long-promised project momentum and putting it on track for a summer shoot in Los Angeles.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, who starred in the original, are in negotiations to reprise their roles as the mother and daughter combo who find themselves switching bodies and lives.
Curtis and Lohan have talked of their hopes for a sequel for several years now, but it’s only been in recent weeks that talks began in earnest. On Friday, Curtis posted a photo of herself with Lohan on Instagram.

Not a trick, definitely not a treat: Universal Pictures has pulled Blumhouse’s “Wolf Man” from its primo Halloween 2024 release, and has re-dated the wide release for January 17, 2025.
With “Wolf Man” now in mid-January 2025, Universal took Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard” — originally slated for January 10, 2025 — off its schedule. That one, starring Danielle Deadwyler, “is now unset and will be re-dated for a later date,” Universal said on Friday. In other words, it definitely won’t be replacing “Wolf Man” this coming Halloween season.
Jason Blum can’t buy a date lately around his favorite holiday. This past Halloween, it was Taylor Swift who ruined his (and others’) best-laid plans. When Swift announced her concert film, “The Eras Tour,” would release in theaters on October 13, 2023, Blum (wisely) chose to move “The Exorcist: Believer” off of its very suitable original date of Friday the 13th. In October. Eighteen days ahead of Halloween.

It's a good time to be a horror fan. Independent film studios and streaming services like Shudder are on a roll with uniquely daring projects ranging from Late Night with the Devil to Syndey Sweeney's Immaculate. Likewise, larger franchises show no signs of slowing down: take The First Omen, for one, and 2023's The Nun 2. The Nun 2 continued to expand The Conjuring universe, an ever-growing cinematic world that became the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time. Yes, demon hunters Ed and Lorraine Warren (the best horror movie couple ever) beat out established universes like Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street. They won't be surrendering that crown anytime soon, either, with at least one more movie — The Conjuring: Last Rites — and a television spin-off on the way.

John Carpenter’s illustrious catalog of horror and non-horror classics has already seen three remakes, with at least one more kinda-sorta confirmed on the way (Escape from New York). If you consider 2011’s The Thing enough of a remake, notch another on the bedpost. It makes sense; Carpenter turned his no-bullshit attitude into a masterful filmmaking style, and those listed titles harbor nostalgic admiration. We’re probably closer than we think to seeing Bryan Fuller’s Christine remake for Blumhouse or a contemporary They Live, while Dwayne Johnson’s Big Trouble in Little China sequel project fades away. Imagine Julia Ducournau’s Christine should Fuller exit, or what about if James Gunn booked a brief horror vacation away from the Dceu for his take on They Live?
Carpenter’s brand of down-and-dirty storytelling mixed with societal commentaries make his works perfect for generational updates, but they can’t all be winners.

These days Marvel has been doing a pretty poor job of making films, before 2019 the franchise was a powerhouse, constantly delivering cinematic entertainment, with smash-hit box office records; all along with narrating a captivating superhero tale. However, the franchise has faced a steady decline in its popularity because after Avengers: Endgame, only a few films have marked a lasting impact in the minds of its viewers.
Batman and Catwoman in Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One
Nevertheless, the franchise should learn from their rivals, DC as Butch Lukic, the producer of Batman: The Long Halloween shares how they all agreed to come up with the idea of adapting the storyline of The Long Halloween. The film was a massive success, featuring Jensen Ackles lending as the voice behind Bruce Wayne/ Batman in the fan-favorite animated film.

Horror has been one of the most successful and enduring genres of cinema since the film industry began, due in large part to its incredibly loyal and passionate fan base. The genre was built by countless actors, some of whom rose to fame through their roles as terrifying monsters and horrific heroes. These stories represent one of the most versatile corners of the film industry, so it's only natural that they feature some of the best actors of all time.
Some of the most iconic actors in Hollywood history have turned in great performances as heroes, villains, and monsters. Some of the genre's actors became iconic for their portrayal of protagonists, while others earned respect for the sheer variety of monsters and villains they played. Many of these actors are practically inseparable from their best-known roles, and each brought something unique to the genre.

The 70s marked a horror turning point with new subgenres like slashers and zombies finding popularity. "Halloween" reshaped horror with the rise of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, defining the slasher genre. "The Omen" and "Jaws" introduced chilling characters that added depth to horror narratives, impacting the genre.

The 1970s hold up as one of the most terrifying decades of the horror genre, giving rise to slashers and bringing a commercial appeal to the terrifying stories filmmakers had to tell. Following the success of movies such as Night of the Living Dead and Rosemary's Baby in the late '60s, the '70s marked a turning point for the genre because it gave it plenty of room to innovate. Shying away from classical monsters and standard thrillers, the rise of underground horror found its fanbase, and horror started to find a wider audience.

Turning down a job can sometimes come back to haunt you, especially if you're an actor who passed up a role in an acclaimed horror movie and later regretted the decision. This scenario may be difficult to imagine. After all, who would pass up the chance to be in a movie or TV show, right? As fans, though, it can be easy to forget that the movie business -- for all its glory, fanfare, legacy, and importance -- is, at the end of the day, just that: a business. A person in any industry may decline a job that doesn't feel like good fit, doesn't align with their schedule, or maybe would have them working with a filmmaker or co-star they unsure of for one reason or another.

“When I was a kid, there was a gangster, real old school type,” recalls Oswald Cobblepot at the start of the trailer for The Penguin. Anyone who has seen a gangster flick before recognizes that kind of talk. Henry Hill, Tony Soprano, Michael Corleone — wiseguys love to wax poetic about the past.
It’s no secret that the classic Batman villain was a highlight of 2021’s The Batman, with director Matt Reeves taking a more grounded approach to the bird-themed character that removed the bright colors and gimmicks. The Penguin’s storyline in the movie focused on his rise through the mob and his spinoff series will continue that tale of ascendance, as Cobblepot works to fill the void in the Gotham underworld left in the wake of Carmine Falcone’s death.
But the Penguin isn’t the only mobster from the comics who will appear or be referenced on this gangster show.

Alien: Romulus promises to deliver the sheer horror missing not only from the first Alien film but also in subsequent installments in the series.
Ridley Scott's Alien achieved what few films only attempted in a decade saturated by slasher flicks. The period birthed numerous exceptional horror movies like Carrie and Halloween, but Scott's 1979 film stood out with its horrific premise: combining claustrophobia and astrophobia with a sci-fi slasher set in outer space. The tagline "In space, no one can hear you scream" has since become the catchphrase of the Alien film series, something director Fede Álvarez says he will leverage in Alien: Romulus, the seventh mainline Alien film. In an interview with Variety, the director explains how his movie will double down on horror without comic relief, which he considered the recurring pitfall of prior Alien movies.

Carpenter claimed "circumstances would have to be correct" for him to return to filmmaking, though he continues to deliver amazing scores and invest in horror-related projects. Carpenter's final film was The Ward, a movie that was met with a negative reception from both the critics and the public audience and struggled at the box office; a major contrast from Carpenter's '80s movies. The Halloween franchise is expanding with a TV show based on John Carpenter's original movie. The TV show will focus on untold stories and characters, and could solve a mystery about Michael Myers' parents. The show may address differing family backgrounds for Michael and what happened to his parents post-original movie.
The Halloween franchise is now expanding with a TV show based on John Carpenter’s original movie, and thanks to this, it can finally solve a decades-long Michael Myers mystery. Back in 1978, John Carpenter brought the slasher movie Halloween, which would go on to become key in the development of the slasher genre in the 1980s, as well as one of the most influential horror movies in film history. The success of Halloween made way for a franchise with 13 movies (including two remakes) and different timelines, with most of them (except Halloween III: Season of the Witch) having Michael Myers as their villain.

In July 2023, People reported that The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Kyle Richards had separated from her husband Mauricio Umansky. Since the pair got married in 1996, this was shocking news. Ever since fans were introduced to Kyle and her fancy lifestyle in season 1 of the Bravo reality series, they have loved seeing every part of her life, including her seemingly strong marriage. While the focus has often been on how Kyle makes money and people have criticized Kyle's weight loss, her long-term relationship is still what people want to talk about.

There is no such thing as a perfect movie.
No matter how integral a certain film may be to the history of cinema, no matter how widely beloved it might be by a mass audience, and no matter how politically and sociologically relevant it may have been to the modern world, there is always an error, a nitpick, an omission, or a production problem that can be included. No work of art is going to be 100% unassailable, largely because a wide swath of humanity will be able to see it, and no two people are going to feel exactly the same way about it.
In modern parlance, the closest critics and audiences may be able to come to a measurable consensus is the approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The way Rotten Tomatoes works: professional critics, writing for a broad gallery of approved outlets, submit a review to Rt, selecting it to be "fresh" or "rotten.

The upcoming Avatar movies will introduce new characters, expanding the franchise beyond Pandora. James Cameron has a pool of talented actors, including Linda Hamilton and Jamie Lee Curtis, for possible roles. Actors like Michael Biehn and Robert Patrick could play intriguing roles in the Avatar universe, adding depth to the story.
There are still three Avatar movies left from director James Cameron, and here are 10 actors that frequently collaborate with the actor that could appear in the upcoming movies. The Avatar franchise is already massive, with all kinds of characters, locations, and storylines existing within the world of Pandora, and that's after only two movies. The next three Avatar movies will undoubtedly expand the universe of the franchise even further, and with that means the introduction of more characters. Luckily, Avatar's James Cameron already has a massive pool of actors to pull from, and here is who they could play.

The free domain is opening up so many possibilities, including the opportunity for the mutants of Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey to expand into a wider Poohniverse! This new horror cinematic universe will include a slew of crossovers with other totally-not-Disney characters.
Variety is the bearer of this news, whether a blessing or a curse. As a longtime horror writer, I’m all for more low-budget slashers with a gimmick. So, how much of a good thing is too much?
We’ll find out soon, for sure. The Poohniverse includes Tinkerbell, Bambi, The Mad Hatter, and Sleeping Beauty. This massive horror movie version of the MCU will land sometime in 2025.
What’s the overarching storyline of this cavalcade of free-to-use figures? They’re all out to get the survivors of the earlier films (including the ones that are yet to be released).

Sunday wasn’t just St. Patrick’s Day, it was also Kurt Russell’s birthday — and the Halloweenies think that’s worth celebrating. After all, for over 45 years, Russell has kept us rooting for him in a smorgasbord of iconic roles: Rj MacReady, Snake Plissken, Jack Burton, Elvis Presley, Wyatt Earp, Santa Claus, Stuntman Mike, Curtis McCabe, Mr. Nobody, Jeff Taylor, Rudy Russo, Eldon Perry, and, of course, Captain Ron.

Ah, the magic of the public domain. The arch nemesis of studios and corporations and copyright lawyers everywhere is nothing but a boon to the rest of us, allowing literally anyone to get their hands on famous properties and shamelessly twist and pervert them beyond all recognition. That's precisely what happened with the beloved character of Winnie the Pooh just over two years ago, allowing for a slew of knockoff (and frankly terrible) B-movie horror flicks like "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" and its upcoming sequel. Well, things are about to kick into another gear entirely as an entire shared universe is apparently now in the works.
Just when you thought it was safe to visit the Hundred Acre Wood again. In the bloodiest and most un-family-friendly news we'll probably get this week, Variety revealed that the creative team responsible for "Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey" is now...

Six years after “Avengers: Infinity War,” another film is vying to become the most ambitious crossover event in history, this time in the lower-budget cinematic realm.
The filmmakers behind “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” — the micro-budget slasher that sparked headlines for turning A. A. Where “Avengers: Infinity War” had Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther and Thanos, “Poohniverse” — from prolific horror collaborators Jagged Edge Productions and ITN Studios — will team Winnie the Pooh with murderous versions of figures including Bambi, Tinkerbell, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, Tigger, Piglet, The Mad Hatter and Sleeping Beauty for an IP-bludgeoning frenzy due for release in 2025. If there's one actress whose name is synonymous with the "Halloween" franchise, created by director John Carpenter in 1978, it's Jamie Lee Curtis. If there's another, it's Danielle Harris. Curtis holds the record for most "Halloween" movie appearances with six film, not counting archival footage, and the late Donald Pleasance is in five (though his likeness was used in the new "Halloween" trilogy). Harris, however, appearing in four "Halloween" movies, is the only actress to play two different characters in the franchise, and she did so by never taking no for an answer. When conditions were wrong, she walked, and when arbitrary directorial edicts threatened to block her, she acted her way back in with the best audition.
Harris was a young child when she first encountered Michael Myers. What happened to that little girl? She grew up, but she never stopped working. These days, she's a mother in real life,...

Shared Cinematic Universes are failing to mimic Marvel's success and lack originality and quality. Splitting movies into parts can create unnatural cliffhangers that leave viewers unsatisfied. Excessive use of CGI leads to poor VFX quality, overworked artists, and ruins the movie experience.
Modern blockbusters tend to try and follow trends that are likely to give them the biggest returns, but some of these need to be retired for movies to truly be creative and unique. While studios are in the business of making money, and they spend hundreds of millions on producing new films all the time, some tropes that keep popping up are getting old fast. When every studio tries to repeat someone else's success, it tends to lower the overall quality with poor imitation and lack of originality.

Desperate times at the box office call for some desperate measures, and AMC always has some trick it has up its sleeve to lure new audiences into movie theaters. (Or simply to build revenue — remember the gold mine that wasn’t quite a gold mine? The retail-investment community on Reddit sure does.)
But AMC Entertainment has been in rare form this week, even for CEO Adam Aron.
On Friday, AMC announced a partnership with Blumhouse for a new film festival they’re calling “Halfway to Halloween.” Tickets went on sale today for a five-day run of different Blumhouse films starting on March 29. Tickets are just $8 (per film), and you can see M. Night Shyamalan’s “Split,” the original “The Purge,” “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “Insidious,” and “The Invisible Man” all on the big screen.

In the new horror movie Immaculate, Sydney Sweeney plays a devout nun named Cecilia, who, after learning that she is somehow with child, is pursued by both the manipulative clergy inside her convent in Italy and servants of darkness. But before she became the young blonde prey in this “nunsploitation” flick, Sweeney was the one doing the chasing.
Sweeney first heard of Immaculate many years ago, when she was just 16 years old. “I auditioned for it, was obsessed with it, and didn’t get it,” she tells Den of Geek while promoting the film at SXSW 2024. “And then I found out that they never made it. And every year, I followed up with my team asking, ‘Did they ever make that movie Immaculate? Whatever happened to it? Who booked it?’ And when I got older and I realized I wanted to make it myself, I went after the script.”

Halloween TV show may fix a major franchise mistake by bringing back Dr. Wynn. Dr. Wynn's new storyline could rewrite the franchise's worst timeline: the Cult of Thorn. The show can also answer a 46-year-old plot hole about Michael Myers and his ability to drive a car.
The Halloween franchise is expanding with a TV show that will go back to the original movie, and thanks to this and one often-forgotten character, the show can fix one of the franchise’s biggest mistakes. Back in 1979, John Carpenter brought Halloween, which would become key in the development of the slasher genre as well as a horror classic. Halloween also made way for a franchise with 10 movies and two remakes, as well as different timelines, each one giving different explanations for Michael Myers’ evil actions and with different outcomes for his Final Girls.

The Halloween TV series by Miramax could feature familiar characters from the franchise, giving viewers a fresh perspective. Characters like Deputy Frank Hawkins and Leigh Brackett offer untapped potential for the new Halloween show's storyline. Including characters like Charlie Bowles and Ismael Cruz could shed light on Michael Myers' origins and add depth to the series.

The Thing starts slow, but once it gets going, it's a thrilling watch with groundbreaking practical effects that still hold up today. Characters in The Thing are underdeveloped archetypes, lacking the depth and complexity seen in other classic horror films. The bleak, cynical worldview of The Thing sets it apart from more optimistic sci-fi films like E.T., making it a tough rewatch in today's darker world.
John Carpenter’s The Thing is a sci-fi horror masterpiece that still holds up to a rewatch today – but there are a couple of minor flaws that stick out on rewatches. The Thing marked the second big-screen adaptation of John W. Campbell’s chilling 1938 novella Who Goes There? after 1951’s The Thing from Another World, directed by Christian Nyby. Much like the 1951 version, Carpenter’s The Thing takes place at a remote research station that gets infiltrated by a malevolent extraterrestrial force determined...

The Exorcist, Halloween, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen, the list of classic horror flicks from the 1970s goes on and on. While each of these titles has received follow-up installments, many have just recently popped back into the public eye with fresh chapters flipping the page to the next piece of the lore. But, instead of going forward, the next project to spawn from a series born in the ‘70s will tell the tale of what came before when The First Omen breaches into theaters on April 5. Today, a fresh peek at the bundle of horrific joy that lies ahead has arrived swaddled in a brand-new trailer courtesy of 20th Century Studios.

1976's "The Omen" still holds a special place in the minds of most horror fans, introducing audiences to the adorable demon spawn known as Damien and subsequently rewriting genre rules for decades to come. It only took a couple of years for the original movie to get a (much less well-received) sequel, and there was even a full-fledged remake back in 2006, so it's not as if turning this property into a franchise is anything new. In a sense, maybe it was only a matter of time before even this untouchable classic ended up getting a prequel origin story of its own ... never mind the fact that the original had most of its backstory pretty much covered already. No matter — here comes the prequel "The First Omen"!
But what if we told you our hype for this prequel was increasing, and that's primarily due to the involvement of "Servant" star Nell Tiger Free...

Halloween has had a long and complicated history. The John Carpenter classic started a timeline full of sequels, remakes, and reboots. Since the not-so final Halloween Ends, Michael Myers has been mostly quiet. However, you can’t kill the boogeyman for long, as late last year, development on a new Halloween TV series had started taking sinister shape. With a franchise as beloved as Halloween, there are many genre filmmakers dying to take a stab at it. This includes writer Simon Barrett, whose hot take on the franchise’s latest incarnation will have a lot of genre fans talking.

However, in 2023 it was announced that Miramax would be partnering with Trancas to develop a television show that would continue the franchise, with the possibility of expanding into a new cinematic universe.
