A World War II adventure, involving a group of Allied POWs, Nazis, black market priceless art treasures, Greek resistance, a Greek monastery, and a secret German rocket base.
The action largely takes place in Stalag Luft VII Z, "somewhere in the Greek Islands 1944" (named in dialogue as Kariai). The monastery is found on Mount Athena.
In the main attack scene in the village, a boy is seen crawling out from under the car. A couple of shots later the same scene is shown, but this time he is grabbed by the German officer.
Opening credits: Somewhere in the Greek Islands 1944
When originally released theatrically in the UK, the BBFC made cuts to secure a 'A' rating. All cuts were waived in 1986 when the film was granted a 'PG' certificate for home video.
