Karl Eric Daslow (Didier Sauvegrain) is the prime suspect of the assassination of President Marc Jarry (Gabriel Cattand). Daslow is an anagram of Oswald. Lee Harvey Oswald is suspected to have killed John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States.

The lab scenes describing "obedience to authority" experiments are based on real-life research conducted by famous psychologist Stanley Milgram in 1963 at Yale University.

The Président assassination scene takes place in Cergy-Prefecture, France.

The title "I for Icarus" is a metaphor from the Greek myth of Icarus. He died for flying too close to the sun when he escaped from the Daedalus' labyrinth, not listening to his father's instructions. It fits the main theme of the film about submission to authority and the destiny of Henri Volney, who came too close from the truth.
