In 1936, archaeologist and adventurer Indiana Jones is hired by the U.S. government to find the Ark of the Covenant before Adolf Hitler's Nazis can obtain its awesome powers.
Shooting in Tunisia was unbearable for the cast and crew. The only thing that got Steven Spielberg and George Lucas through the shoot, was knowing that at the age of fifty-four, David Lean endured fourteen months of blistering heat, while shooting Lawrence of Arabia (1962) on-location.

When Indy and Marion exit the Well of Souls, an unidentified man is clearly seen lying against the rock face but is missing a few moments later during a medium shot that shows the same exit - the wheels of the "Flying Wing" are in the foreground. (A deleted fight scene shows Indy knocking out the man after escaping from the Well of Souls.)
The mountain in the Paramount logo dissolves into the mountain in the Peruvian jungle.
