The lives and work of the staff of St. Eligius Hospital, an old and disrespected Boston teaching hospital.
According to G.W. Bailey, he left the series after the first season because he did not get along with executive producer Bruce Paltrow.
Dr. Wayne Fiscus:
I have a hunch.
Dr. Mark Craig:
So did Quasimodo.
Throughout the final season (1987-1988), the elevated Orange Line train is seen in the opening credits. However, the elevated line was torn down and relocated in April 1987, thus making its appearance anachronistic during the final season. However, all of the series except for the last scene was revealed to be a dream within an autistic boy's head, so the appearance of the elevated Orange Line train in 1987 would be an error on the part of the character.
In the final season, St. Eligius has been bought by Ecumena. In several episodes of the final season, the following message appears during the end credits: "ECUMENA is a fictional company that does not represent any actual company or corporation."
