The famous "Space, the final frontier" monologue is heard for the first time since the original Star Trek (1966) television series, now narrated by Leonard Nimoy, however it has been changed slightly. Instead of saying, "...its five-year mission..." and "to seek out new life," it now says, "her ongoing mission..." and "to seek out new life forms".
Captain's log: Stardate 8130.3. Starship Enterprise on training mission to Gamma Hydra, section 14, coordinates 22-87-4. Approaching Neutral Zone; all systems normal and functioning.
Sulu: Leaving section 14 for section 15.
Saavik: Standby. Project parabolic ...
Shortly after the Enterprise and Reliant enter the Nebula, there is an overhead shot of the Enterprise with Reliant down below in the distance. During this shot, the rear tip of the Enterprise's starboard nacelle disappears for a brief moment.
After the opening credits: "In the 23rd century..."
The network version has Kirk's question to McCoy about the glasses "This is charming... what is it?" and McCoy replies "They're for your eyes. For most patients your age, I'd usually administer Retinax Five."
