The scene of Tony's face emerging from the television static is a tribute to the scene of static emerging from the television and enveloping Max in "Videodrome".
Cronenberg was influenced by Bergmann's work. Especially the surreal sequences at the end of the film have a strong similarity to sequences at the end of "Videodrome".
Both have a supporting character who created a library of informative videotapes before dying to appear to still be alive and still give people information.
