After the show was canceled, the chopper was sold to a German firm and became an air ambulance. It crashed during a thunderstorm on June 9, 1992, killing all three crew members.
The production needed special permission from the FAA for Airwolf to fly with its weapons deployed, even though they were props.
For the German broadcast, "Stringfellow" Hawke was changed to "Huckleberry Hawke."
