TV Series | TV-PG | | Crime, Drama, Mystery
Professional writer and amateur sleuth Jessica Fletcher uses her intellect, charm, and persistence to get to the bottom of every crime she encounters.
The series became the longest-running American prime time scripted series then on the air after Cheers (1982) ended on May 20, 1993 and retained that status until its final episode on May 19, 1996. It was succeeded by Married with Children (1986). It remains the last drama series to have held this distinction as Married with Children (1986), Murphy Brown (1988), Family Matters (1989) and The Simpsons (1989) are all sitcoms.
Jessica Fletcher often undertakes actions which would result in evidence and investigation being compromised. Since she is only a crime novel writer and has never been a police officer, these actions could result in cases being dropped or overturned upon appeal. There is no way that the local District Attorney would allow her to perform the actions that she does.
