- UK versions are cut for a 'PG' rating.
- When Rice confronts Davey down by the waterfront, Rice menacingly says how he intends to shoot Davey with a machine gun, beginning by blowing off his kneecaps, then shooting him in the stomach, and then letting Davey die slowly. In several of the film releases, as well as all the television versions, Rice's graphic narrative is edited out.
- In the theatrical release of the film, there is a much longer scene showing Davey and Kim's arrival at the tower building. This includes Davey running and hiding behind pillars and telling Kim that the security guards are "sentries". When Davey pulls out his ink gun, one of the guards asks if he and Kim are lost, then realizes they are playing a game and directs them to the 7th floor "game division". This is the same guard Davey later reports a murder too, and this previous encounter gives more insight into why the guard did not believe Davey's story.
- Some versions of the film include additional scenes of Davey running through the Riverwalk after escaping the tour boat, hiding from the spies, and asking some adults for help. Davey is believed by no one, who all think he is playing a game, explaining why later in the film Davey told Kim they were completely on their own and could not ask any adults for help.
- The television version omitted several scenes from the beginning of the film. These include a slightly longer narrative with Morris and Kim, after Davey wins the first role playing game with Kim, as well as a scene where Davey tells Kim to "play right" with the walkie-talkies and to start acting like Lady Ace. An extra scene also occurs after Davey is brought home by the police, where Davey tells his father he is scared and asks to sleep in his bed.
