The film was first released about six years after its source novel of the same name by R. Lance Hill had been first published in 1978.

Writers R. Lance Hill and David Lee Henry are the same person. Hill was given the chance to adapt his own novel but used the pseudonym David Lee Henry. His work on the script was eventually written out by John Crowther, though the pseudonym of Henry still received a credit.
Old Norwegian video rental version with an 16 rating are cut, later DVD version with a 15 rating are uncut but taken from the U.S R-rated version.
