The Hunger Games franchise keeps expanding. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, the sixth installment in the overall Hunger Games film franchise and the second prequel, is in development at Lionsgate, with a fall 2026 premiere slated.

Sunrise on the Reaping is based on a dystopian young adult novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, published in March 2025. It became the fastest-selling title in the Hunger Games book series so far, selling more than 1.5 million copies in its first week. The film adaptation was already in the works. Still, with the publication of the novel, the pace of movie development has accelerated, and news about it is emerging at a steady clip.

Damien de Froberville has been promoted to president of Sony Pictures Animation. He’ll serve alongside president Kristine Belson, overseeing the animation division’s upcoming slate of “Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse,” Stephen Curry’s sports comedy “Goat” and fantasy musical “Kpop: Demon Hunters.”

“I am thrilled to announce that Damien de Froberville has been promoted to serve alongside me as President of Sony Pictures Animation,” Belson wrote on Tuesday morning in a note to staff. “This new title and structure recognizes the significant responsibilities he has already undertaken and the vital role he has played at our studio. Since his arrival, Damien and I have worked in tandem to guide the studio’s strategic direction, drive its continued growth, and oversee all aspects of development and production across our animation slate.”

Actor George Wendt, best known for his role as Norm Peterson on Cheers, has passed away. He was 76 years old.

Per Variety, Wendt died at his home in his sleep on Tuesday morning. A cause of death was not revealed, but his passing was confirmed by the beloved actor's publicist, Melissa Nathan, with a statement shared on behalf of the family.

“George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him," the family's statement noted. "He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.”

George Wendt got his career in show business started as an alumnus of The Second City, where he worked after graduating with a B.A. in economics. He picked up some small roles in the early 1980s, appearing in the films My Bodyguard, Jekyll and Hyde... Together Again, and Airplane II: The Sequel.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, the latest addition to the Toy Story franchise is five-time Emmy-winner Conan O'Brien. He is most well-known for hosting Conan, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and (briefly) The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. Sesame Street finds a new streaming home after Warner Bros. Discovery decided not to renew its deal with HBO Max. Warner Bros. has been the owner of HBO since its creation over 52 years ago. Back then, there were no streaming services but, amid the rise of streaming platforms, Warner Bros. introduced HBO Max in 2020.

The subscription premiered in 2020 and was the home of multiple Warner Bros. titles, as well as a series of new content, which they ran under the "HBO Original" banner. However, in 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery decided the subscription service needed a makeover, so it dropped the "HBO" from the name, turning into simply Max. Well, Warner Bros. is shaking things up and has revealed the biggest plot twist: starting this summer, Max will officially become HBO Max. Again.

In the press release from May 14, Warner Bros. revealed one good news about the change: it will keep the same app. The 2023 change from HBO Max to Max came with a separate app, forcing subscribers to download and replace the other one.

As noted in an X post from fan page Animation on Max, the streaming giant is slated to cull thousands of hours of content in the coming weeks. The vast majority of these removals come in the form of various reality TV shows, although scripted series are on the chopping block as well.
