Panic struck on Novemver 11 1983 when Aaj Ka MLA was launched with a 10 day shooting spell. The director Dasari Narayana Rao had approached Dilip Kumar for the film but he declined. He also approached Amitabh for a another film, but he also declined. At a party at Srinagar, before a crowd of 100 people, Narayana Rao proclaimed he would make a bigger hit than Avtaar with Rajesh Khanna. The film was a remake of Eedukonadalu . It dealt with a chief minister and the Congress government had tried to ban it before the elections that brought NTR into power. But not many knew about Aaj Ka MLA before hand. The launch and mahurat of the film came as a shock, specifically to T Rama Rao who was a rival of director Dasari Narayana Rao. On the same day the producer of Inquilaab A. Veeraswamy made a frantic phone call to Amitabh. He was angry and yelling, stammering over his words. Amitabh asked him to calm down and come down to Delhi to meet him and speak about the matter. A.Veeraswamy,T.Rama Rao, S.Ramananthan, Poornachandra Rao all boarded a emergency flight to meet Amitabh in Delhi. Upon landing ,A.Veeraswamy told Amitabh that Dasari Narayana Rao launched Aaj Ka MLA which was a remake of Telugu hit MLA Eedukonadalu. It was a plan to sabotage Inquilaab. Amitabh was said to have laughed it off not taking it seriously. When Poornachandra Rao explained further how bad the situation was,Amitabh was shaken. Aaj Ka MLA was actually planned to be launched in January 1984. When there was a slight delay in Inquilaab due to Amitabh severely injuring his left hand during Diwali celebrations.,Rajesh Khanna contacted Dasari Narayana Rao. He wanted to life the entire second half of Inquilaab and add with to to Aaj Ka MLA. The producer T.Kranthi,Dasari Narayana Rao and Rajesh Khanna had plans to shoot and complete the film before Inquilaab could release. They were all aware Inquilaab would take another 8 months due to Amitabh canceling Tinnu Anand and Prakash Mehra's films in November,December,January. Amitabh was taken back by the situation. But a doubt lingered in his mind. He questioned the credibility of the situation. T.Rama Rao made a phone call to writer Dr. Rahi Masoom Raza. He was the dialogue writer for Inquilaab and Aaj Ka MLA. Masoom Raza spoke to Amitabh and confirmed the entire story. Amitabh was shaken but could understand why Dasari Narayana Rao would join hands with Rajesh Khanna. Narayana Rao had approached Amitabh for another film which Amitabh declined. He then approached Amitabh again for Aaj Ka MLA. Amitabh declined the offer in favor for A.Veeraswamy's Inquilaab. Amitabh realized how serious the situation was and decided to immediately shoot Inquilaab against doctors orders. Amitabh would need constant medical attention on the sets and the bandages could not be removed no matter what. So T.Rama Rao decided Amitabh's character would constantly have one hand in his pocket at all times. Amitabh called Prakash Mehra and explained the situation to him. Prakash Mehra gave Amitabh the go ahead to shoot Inquilaab before Sharaabi. He would not be angry about this. So just 10 days after Aaj Ka Mla was launched on November 21, Amitabh flew to Madras and shot for the film inquilaab nonstop. The situation was such that the Mumbai actors were offered 3 times more money in cash if they could give immediate shooting dates and complete their scenes fast. Prakash Mehra blasted Rajesh Khanna in the print. Mehra called Khanna petty for playing this dirty game with Amitabh. Amitabh hand was all black from being burnt. He needed to go to USA for skin grafting. Now he could not do that immediately due to Rajesh Khanna trying to sabotage Inquilaab. Rajesh Khanna got word about Inquilaab's new progress and promised immediate dates for the film. But for unknown reasons Aaj Ka MLA got postponed slightly making it release after Inquilaab.
While the movie was being filmed, in an unrelated accident, Amitabh Bachchan had a firecracker go off in his hand. Surgical correction was incomplete during the rest of the filming, so he wears a handkerchief or hides his hand in many scenes.
The film released in 1984 when Amitabh had in real life too joined politics like in this film.
The film was a remake of Kannada film Chakravyuha. Rajesh Khanna's film " Aaj Ka MLA Ram Avtar" released around the same time had a similar theme. Inquilab did average business while Aaj Ka MLA flopped.
This was the only Amitabh Bachchan movie that Rama Rao Tatineni directed. Although Amitabh Bachchan appeared in Blind Law (1983) he had a special appearance and the film had Rajnikant in the lead.

Inquilaab, Yeh Desh with Jeetendra and Aaj Ka M.L.A were based on the same subject. Incidently Inquilaab & Yeh Desh were made by the same director T.Rama Rao.
Inquilaab has been shot and released very quickly, as there was a race with Aaj Ka M.L.A. Ram Avtar. The mahurat was held on October 26 ,1983. The first film Amitabh signed after his Coolie accident and 'rebirth'. All his earlier heroines - Raakhee, Hema malini, Zeenat Aman, Parveen Babi - had either moved on or vanished from the scene due to one reason or another. Rekha was the uncrowned No.1 but he had stopped signing films with her. Sridevi who had scored huge hits like Himmatwala and Justice Chaudhry was signed as Amitabh's heroine for the first time. This literally started a new 'chapter' in Amitabh's career. The next generation - Sridevi, Jayaprada, Madhavi, Meenakshi, Amrita were the heroines he would constantly star with over the next decade until his self imposed retirement in 1994.
Coincidentally Amitabh Bachchan was initially named Inquilaab at birth which his father (Harivanshrai Bachchan) later changed to Amitabh.
South Indian producer Veeraswamy had intentions of remaking the Kannada hit film Chakravuha in Hindi. He had a trial showing for Prakash Mehra and told him he was planning to make the film in Hindi with Rajnikanth. This is when Prakash Mehra suggested he sign Amitabh for the film and increase the films mass appeal and price with distributors.
T.Rama Rao directed both Inquilab and Yeh Desh. Both films were based on corruption in the political system. Padmaylaya was upset with Rao for giving preferable treatment to Inquilab. They felt T.Rama Rao was giving more time to Inquilab so it could release before Yeh Desh .
The song "Disco 84" at 3:35 , was inspired by Popeye The Sailor Man singing/ humming his "scat" tunes.
Tiger Prabhakar who played one of the henchmen Anil Raj was in Huliyaada Kaala, the remake of Kaalia, playing Amitabh Bachchan's role, who happens to be the lead actor for Inquilaab.
