A boy and his mother move to California for a new job. He struggles to fit in, as a group of karate students starts to bully him for dating a rich girl from their clique. It's up to the Japanese landlord, Miyagi, to teach him karate.
The idea for The Karate kid film came from producer Jerry Weintraub, who heard a news report in 1983 about a scrawny teen being bullied who became a martial artist.
Looking for a shortcut back to Newark, Daniel?
Tommy: I THINK he wants to learn KARATE! Right?
Johnny Lawrence: Yeah! Okay, here's your first lesson: how to take a FALL!
When Daniel's mom is walking through the gate door (4:35), you can see a man in a hat behind it (right side) and he moves behind the door, presumably to hold the door as she is carrying things.
The late-2000's/early 2010's AMC broadcasts in the US slowed down the film's audio pitch and speed at 4% (excluding the ending sequence, which remained normal-pitched). However, the entire film retains its original audio pitch and speed on current AMC broadcasts.
