Trivia

Stuart Rosenberg replaced Ron Maxwell as director. Maxwell was allegedly fired early on during production by MGM/UA after Maxwell lobbied to have actor Eric Roberts replaced. Maxwell didn't see Roberts as a New York City street hustler, but was overruled by the studio & producers.

Quotes

Charlie: Honest work. Let me tell ya somethin' about 'honest work'. When somebody says they got 'honest work', you know what they got? They got a shit job, that's what they got.

Goofs

When Walter (Bunky) (Jack Kehoe) falls into the elevator shaft, Charlie goes down to see if the guy is still alive or not. Charlie finds out it's a cop & also that he has a wire tape on him. When Charlie checks Bunky's pulse in Bunky's neck, the actor leans into Charlie's hand. He is supposed to be dead, and not moving.
