Father Ted fans have attempted to bring 'My Lovely Horse' to the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
The Irish parliament has rejected the petition, titled 'legislate to make "My Lovely Horse" Ireland's entry for Eurovision 2015', which was formally submitted to the government in May.
The petition was launched by a group named 'The People of Ireland (and interested Britons too)'.
While the Oireachtas petitions committee considered the request on Wednesday (June 26), it said that it couldn't force Ireland's national broadcaster to submit the entry.
Chairman Pádraig Mac Lochlainn said that the committee "didn't have the musical expertise" it needed to realistically consider the issue.
The song appeared in the Father Ted episode 'A Song for Europe', in which Ted and Dougal find themselves representing Ireland.
Lyrics include: "I want to shower you with sugar lumps, and ride you over fences, polish your hooves every single day and bring you to the horse dentist.
