Sydney Sweeney is getting further into the thriller genre.

The actress/producer is set to lead the adaptation of a short story that first originated on Reddit, “I Pretended to Be a Missing Girl,” which was written in 2021 by high school English teacher Joe Cote. The viral short story is now getting a big screen adaptation by way of Oscar-winning “Forrest Gump,” “A Star Is Born,” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” scribe Eric Roth, with Sweeney starring and producing, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire.

Cote’s story, titled “I pretended to be a missing girl so I could rob her family,” centers on a drifter (Sweeney) who impersonates a missing girl ten years after she went missing to rob her family, only to realize it’s a terrible mistake. In his latest project collaboration, Emmy Award-winning set and celebrity interior designer James Pearse Connelly has announced the restoration of the legendary Walsh House from the 1985 cult classic The Goonies.

The project, spearheaded by Connelly alongside the new homeowner and devoted Goonies superfan, Behman Zakeri, aims to bring the iconic house back to its 1980’s movie glory in time for the film’s 40th anniversary on June 7, 2025.

The house, located in Astoria, Oregon, became the home of one of the most iconic cinematic families, the Walshes, in The Goonies. Nearly 40 years later, it remains a beloved symbol of adventure, friendship, and nostalgia for fans worldwide. Behman Zakeri, a self-proclaimed “Goonie,” purchased the house in January 2023 and tapped the expertise of Connelly, and his design firm JPConnelly, to lead the project in helping bring his bold vision to life, with plans to undergo the major restoration starting in February.

Robert Davi is eager to reprise his role as Jake Fratelli in the recently announced sequel to The Goonies, but he worries his political views might keep him out.

The actor, 73, expressed his concerns in an interview with Fox Digital, stating that his outspoken conservatism—especially his support for Donald Trump—has cost him jobs in the past.

Speaking with Variety at Time's Women of the Year event in Los Angeles, Kidman was careful not to reveal too much about the highly-anticipated sequel, saying only that development on Practical Magic 2 was "movie ahead rapidly." After Variety pushed for more information, such as if Kidman had seen a script, the actor playfully remarked, "I'm not answering anymore. You can ask Sandy [Bullock]." What a year 2025 is proving to be for seismic regime changes. Last week came the official announcement that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson are stepping back from Bond. And now, reports are coming in that Kathleen Kennedy – legendary producer and Amblin co-founder – will be stepping back as President of Lucasfilm later in 2025 as she prepares for retirement. No official announcement has been made, but Puck reports that Kennedy will be stepping down after 13 years of steering the company, a role which saw her lead the Star Wars and Indiana Jones franchises.

Kennedy not only oversaw the return of Star Wars to the big screen in the sequel trilogy between 2015-2019, but also saw the saga move to Disney+ across several streaming series, including The Mandalorian and Andor. She also oversaw the return of Indiana Jones in The Dial Of Destiny. Prior to her work at Lucasfilm, Kennedy produced the likes of E.

The Star Wars franchise is now expected to undergo a major creative change before the end of this year, as long-time producer and president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, plans retirement. While we continue to reel from the James Bond shake-up (not stirred) as Amazon takes the creative reins, it seems that Star Wars will join 007, with Kennedy, who is set to celebrate her 72nd birthday this year, stepping down and a new face leading the beloved franchise into the future.

According to Puck News (and their three sources), “Kathleen Kennedy has informed Disney, as well as friends and associates, that she will exit as Lucasfilm president by the end of the year.” At present, representatives for Kennedy and Disney have yet to comment, but the report claims that Kennedy, who became president of Lucasfilm back in 2012, “was actually planning to leave last year,” before changing her mind.

The Goonies fans received some good news last week with the revelation that its long-gestating sequel had found its screenwriter, as the project gets into full swing. Answering fans' questions for The Guardian, Quan was asked about the celebrities who dropped by during the filming of The Goonies. Among them were Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson and Clint Eastwood. But Quan shared that he was most starstruck by Harrison Ford, and he also shared an anecdote about how director Steven Spielberg saw Ford's set visit as an opportunity to play a prank on the actor. "I was star-struck when Harrison Ford came to visit because I’d made Indy [Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom]," Quan said.

Ke Huy Quan recently told The Guardian that one of his most fond memories of making “The Goonies” was an unforgettable prank producer Steven Spielberg played on Harrison Ford, Quan’s “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom” co-star who visited the set during production.

“I was star-struck when Harrison Ford came to visit because I’d made Indy. Spielberg played a big joke on him,” Quan said. “There was a biography out of him that he really hated, so Steven went out and bought about 300 copies, so that when Harrison came to visit and walked on to set, the security guard, the gaffers, the camera equipment people, everybody was reading that biography.”

Quan made his acting debut in “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” with “The Goonies” being his follow-up project. Spielberg directed the former. As it turns out, Ford wasn’t the only A-list visitor on set.

The Goonies is officially getting a very belated sequel!

The cult classic movie, which starred the likes of Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan and Martha Plimpton, premiered all the way back in the summer of 1985 and has a devoted following still 40 years later.

This week, Warner Bros. brought on a script writer to begin putting together a story for a new movie in the series.

The Goonies are officially making a comeback.

Warner Bros. has confirmed that a sequel to the beloved 1985 adventure film is in development, with Potsy Ponciroli set to write the script. The project is moving forward nearly 40 years after the original movie first hit theaters.

Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario will be producing for Amblin Entertainment, joined by Chris Columbus, who wrote the original screenplay. Lauren Shuler Donner will serve as an executive producer. At this stage, no director has been announced, and plot details remain under wraps.

The original movie, directed by Richard Donner and produced by Spielberg, followed a group of kids who stumbled upon an ancient treasure map and embarked on a wild adventure to uncover the hidden riches.

Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, and Martha Plimpton, the film became an instant hit, grossing $125 million worldwide on a $19 million budget.
