On improvising a burglary at a shady tycoon's home, Fred takes refuge in the hip and surreal universe of the Paris Metro and encounters its assorted denizens, the tycoon's henchmen and his disenchanted young wife.
One of many collaborations between Jean Reno and Luc Besson. They also worked in Le Dernier Combat (The Last Battle) (1983), The Big Blue (1988), La Femme Nikita (1990) and Léon: The Professional (1994).

When first shown in the UK, on BBC Television (in French, and in wide screen with black bars top and bottom, the sub-titles shown in the lower black bar), Rickie Lee Jones' song 'Lucky Guy' was the song on the radio Lambert and Adjani danced to in the subway café. Since then all showings of the film on UK TV have replaced it with a different band track.
