For decades, there have been studies and conversations regarding the perils of obesity, and though being overweight doesn’t inherently make someone unhealthy, it can cause severe medical issues. While those who struggle with excess weight are often told to eat fewer calories and exercise daily, millions of people are still categorized as obese. Now, in “An Oprah Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution,” Oprah Winfrey is addressing obesity as a disease, the revolutionary medications being used to combat food noise, exiting the WeightWatchers board of directors and giving viewers a glimpse into her personal weight struggles and experiences with prescription weight loss medications.
Whether someone has had trouble maintaining a healthy weight or not, there has been no avoiding the recent discussions around medications like Ozempic, Mounjaro and Wegovy. However, because so many people get their information second-hand from social media apps, misinformation and distrust have also spread far and wide.

Josh Duggar is the troubled oldest son of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. While he rose to fame as a member of the supersized family, he is now known for several disgraces. Two of his scandals involved sex crimes. The father of seven molested several of his sisters and an unrelated girl when he was still a teen.
While the allegations against him were not made public until 2015, there were hints that something was wrong long before. In fact, Josh Duggar vaguely addressed the molestation scandal on the website he created after he married Anna Duggar.

Before she was a TLC star, Kathy Crispino from sMothered was an unhappy football widow. The big-haired mom from Chicago vented about her husband’s obsession with sports during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show more than two decades ago.
Kathy Crispino from ‘sMothered’ felt ‘shut out’ by her husband Joe’s sports obsession
Kathy and her husband Joe Crispino were guests on a 1993 episode of Oprah, where they discussed Joe’s fervent football fandom. The appearance was actually their second on the show. In 1990, the couple invited the talk show’s cameras into their home, where Kathy – sporting a denim jumpsuit with a white belt – showed off Joe’s state-of-the-art sports-watching setup. It included one large and three smaller TVs, as well as an at-home sports ticker that displayed the latest scores every five minutes.
A few years later, Joe’s mancave was even more elaborate.

Drew Barrymore’s talk show returned for its fourth season Oct. 16 without its previous writing staff — with its writers from last season having been offered, but declining, the opportunity to return. And it proved that it’s possible to run a show like this without any writers with experience on the show — just so long as you whittle away any connective tissue that makes an interview legible. And maybe include some long, wordless sequences of horseback riding for good measure.
Barrymore, who earlier this year seemed to be riding high as one of the standard-bearers of the sweetly sunny post-Ellen daytime landscape, tanked her public image last month with a subset of the audience by announcing that she’d be bringing her show back Sept. 18, before the WGA strike had concluded. Tom Cruise once made headlines for reasons different than headlining blockbuster movies. The actor generated a lot of conversation for his behavior during an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show. But Cruise’s close friend at the time, Steven Spielberg, had a similar experience with the star in private.
Steven Spielberg believed there was nothing wrong with what Tom Cruise did on Oprah Tom Cruise | Marc Piasecki/FilmMagic
Cruise showed a lot of passion when speaking about his ex-wife Katie Holmes to Oprah Winfrey. When their interview circled around to Cruise’s love life, Cruise famously jumped on Oprah’s couch while professing his love to Holmes. The incident stirred a lot of controversy back in 2005. Spielberg, however, supported the actor, who he was working alongside with on War of the Worlds. Although he admitted to being a little upset with the situation as a whole.

Robert Downey, Jr. has been frank and forthcoming about his prolonged struggles with substance addiction. For many years, the actor abused cocaine and heroin, all while balancing an exciting career as one of his generation's best actors. Downey opened up, as in other places, on "The Oprah Winfrey Show," talking about how the most difficult part of giving up drugs was the resolute decision to do so. Ever since, Downey has remained clean, and, thanks to the 2008 film "Iron Man" become one of the world's wealthiest and most recognizable movie stars. Also in 2008, Downey appeared in the film "Tropic Thunder" as an intensely devoted prima donna actor who surgically changed his race (!) to play a role. He was nominated for an Academy Award.
As many former addicts might tell you, their decision to get clean is often accompanied by a "low point" or a "moment of clarity." Something might happen...

Making films is hard and movie mistakes are bound to happen, but sometimes those unplanned moments can turn out to be just what the scene has been missing. There are plenty of ways an error can creep its way into a film scene. The bigger the production, the more moving parts have the capacity to go wrong. Stunts can get out of hand, actors can forget lines and extras can behave unexpectedly. It’s entirely possible for such an error to spoil the scene, requiring another take or even a cover-up via editing trickery.
Nevertheless, some of cinema’s greatest moments have come out of things going wrong. Famously, the suspense of Jaws’ unseen shark was only made possible by a mechanical model functioning so poorly that the production had to shoot around it. Likewise, some perfect details in beloved movies were only made possible due to on-screen gaffs. Sometimes,...

We love the "Mission: Impossible" movies, don't we folks? These globe-trotting, death-defying adventures get bigger and better with each installment. At the center of each entry is Ethan Hunt, played by stuntman/actor Tom Cruise. Ethan is our guide into the world of the Imf and their various missions, but he can't do it all by himself. He has a team to back him up, and while the team has changed over the years, there's a core group that stays the same.
There's Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, a hacker turned Imf agent. There's Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, who started off working in a lab and eventually became a field agent. Then there's Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson), a former MI6 agent who has more or less joined the Imf due to her friendship with Ethan. London’s Inner South Coroner’s Court will conduct an autopsy, but it will take many weeks to determine the results.

The Angry Black Girl and Her Monster is the vision of writer/director Bomani J. Story, and the new horror film revolutionizes the classic tale of Frankenstein by audaciously intertwining an urban and socioeconomic twist throughout an eerie and deliciously disturbing take on a time-proven drama.
As if it's not enough that the brilliant young protagonist Vicaria — portrayed by the equally brilliant actress Laya DeLeon Hayes (The Equalizer TV series) — is living out her youth entombed in a community that is haunted by gang violence, bigoted teachers, and drugs. Already suffering the loss of her mother, when her brother is heartlessly murdered, it becomes a catalyst to her scientific obsession. Determined to cure death, she soon owns up to her unwelcome nickname, “The Mad Scientist," by working to resurrect her slain brother.
Or so it seems.

With Dr. Phil coming to its conclusion earlier this year, it's the end of an era for daytime television. Wrapping up in May, the show had been on the air for 21 seasons, originally launching in 2002. It served as a spinoff of sorts of The Oprah Winfrey Show, where Phil McGraw had previously been making guest appearances using his Dr. Phil persona. It was announced in January of this year that the show would be ending with the current season, though reruns of the series will continue to air.

But when a film she was passionate about ended up sinking at the box-office, she found herself more hurt than ever.

Jerry Springer’s eponymous talk show may have been tasteless, but you can’t say that Springer himself didn’t have taste.
“I would never watch my show,” he commented to Reuters in 2000. “I’m not interested in it. It’s not aimed towards me.”
He may not have been interested, but plenty of people were. The hugely successful tabloid show, one of the pioneers of trash television, notched nearly 5,000 episodes during its 27-season run from 1991 to 2018. During the peak of its popularity in the mid ‘90s, it even beat The Oprah Winfrey Show in the ratings in many cities.
You could say that Jerry Springer was the anti-Oprah Winfrey Show; if aliens monitored our broadcasts in those days, they would have been hopelessly confused about whether mankind was worth preserving or not.

According to NBC affiliate Wlwt, where he once worked as a news anchor, Springer died peacefully Thursday at his home in the Chicago suburbs.
“The Jerry Springer Show” began its multi-decade run in 1991 and, in 1998 at the height of its popularity, beat “The Oprah Winfrey Show” in the ratings, drawing 12 million viewers.
Like Geraldo Rivera, Springer signed on for a show that he thought seemed like the logical next step in his journalism career — a show not unlike “Donahue” that would take a serious look at a variety of important issues. But as with “Geraldo,” the pressure to score big in the ratings pretty quickly meant appealing to the lowest common denominator — Springer and his new producer, Richard Dominick, who’d worked at the Weekly World News,...

When it comes to comedy, "Saturday Night Live" is one of the best gigs an actor can get. The show has produced some of the biggest stars in the business: Bill Murray, Eddie Murphy, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and many more. But that list of comedy greats isn't complete without Kristin Wiig, who was a cast member on "SNL" from 2005 to 2012. Wiig's work on the show resulted in some of the most memorable sketches of the 21st century. Who could forget Gilly, the overly-excited Sue, or the beloved Target Lady?
While she was on the show, Wiig began dipping her toe into feature films, with small parts in comedies like "Knocked Up" and "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." Her biggest career moment came in 2011 with the release of "Bridesmaids," which she co-wrote and starred in alongside Maya Rudolph. Wiig also has a number of indie movies on her filmography, including...

Nathan Lane recounts a touching story about how Robin Williams protected him from being outed during their press tour for The Birdcage. Williams and Lane starred together in the 1996 remake of the French musical as a gay couple who pretend to be straight in order to meet their son's fiancée and her ultra-conservative parents. The film was a box office success, grossing $185 million on a $30 million budget, and received positive reviews for Williams and Lane's performances, as well as seeing beyond stereotypes and depicting each character's depth and humanity.
As he returns to his Broadway roots with Pictures from Home, Lane recently appeared on Today and recounted a touching story about Robin Williams. In 1996, the two appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to promote The Birdcage and Lane, who didn't come out publicly in 1999, was terrified and wasn't "prepared at all" to talk about his sexuality on national television. In turn,...

Nathan Lane says he wasn’t ready to publicly come out of the closet when The Birdcage opened in 1996, and co-star Robin Williams helped him dodge the issue during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
“I was not prepared at all for that,” Lane said in an interview on NBC’s Sunday Today with Willie Geist yesterday, “and I certainly wasn’t ready to go from table-to-table and tell them all I was gay. I just wanted to talk about finally [getting] a big part in a movie, and I didn’t want to make it about my sexuality.”
Lane, who was out to his family and friends by age 21, and Williams famously played a gay couple in the Mike Nichols film adapted by Elaine May from the 1978 Franco-Italian film La Cage aux Folles. While promoting the film, the duo was invited to appear on Winfrey’s daytime talk show,...

Nathan Lane revealed on “Sunday Today” that Robin Williams once protected him from coming out as gay against his will on national television. The year was 1996 and Lane and Williams were on their press tour for Mike Nichols’ “The Birdcage,” in which they play a gay couple trying to marry off their son to a conservative couple’s daughter. Lane was nervous about doing an interview on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” as “The Birdcage” was one of his first major film roles, and he did not want to come out publicly as gay at the time.
“I was not prepared at all for that,” Lane said about openly discussing his sexuality at the time. “And I certainly wasn’t ready to go from table-to-table and tell them all I was gay. I just wanted to talk about finally [getting] a big part in a movie, and I didn’t want to make it about my sexuality.
